I have a d60 and i love shooting with it, Its my first SLR and I plan on keeping it until I have fully mastered all its capabilities which will probably take a while since this is amazing cam IMO.
I have a old school zoom lens thats about 20 years old that I occasionally shoot with, Its pretty good for its age but I really have no use for it, I like wide angle shots so my next purchase will most likely be a sigma 10-20.
What else do I need? What are the different types of lenses out there. I know that there are wide angle and zoom lenses but what else? Is there a better all purpose lens out there then my stock 18-55mm vr lens?

I have a D60.. and i'm in the process of selling my kit lense and getting the 35mm!
If you're looking for an overall lense.. I would sugesst - Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED.

Usually, people who think they are being limited by their kit lens:
-ultra wide angle (10mm and plus lens) for landscapes and tight indoor photography
-a bigger range for their walkaround like 18-105 or 18-135 or even 18-200
-a portrait prime lens that will also work as low-light lens. These are lenses with apperture larger than f/2.8 (smaller number = bigger apperture)
-a telephoto lens that goes as much as 300mm range
-a flash unit which will make your indoor photography much better instantly
-a macro lens for extreme close ups of tiny objects (also acts as portrait lens)
-battery grip for ability to use AA batteries when regular one runs out and for extra comfort when shooting vertically
-a second body so that changing lenses becomes less of a hassle
-a tripod for picture where shutter speed is open more than half a second such as night city and firework photo
-a bag that will carry all of the above
How much of the above you get, depends entirely on your budget and your interest in that type of photography.
So you need to first state what your interests are before we're able to suggest what you will need.

Thanks, I didnt know some of the things you mentioned. And I like taking pictures of people, parties, cars, architecture, downtown, the night lights, ect. I would bring my camera everywhere i go if it was social acceptable lol. Not really into nature or macro photography so I dont think ill need a zoom or macro lens.

Any AF-S lens will autofocus on "motor-less" bodies such as D40/D40x/D60/D5000/D3000
Any AF lens will not autofocus on above mentioned bodies, but will autofocus on all other Nikon DSLR

Does the D70 have a motor in it? I'm guessing no right?

I would recommend what faken mentioned; a 17-55 f2.8 lens seems to fit very well with what you like to take pictures of. It has a decent zoom range and the wide aperture will help out in low light.

Only the cameras I mentioned above do not haeave AF motor and rely on the lens to autofocus (AF-S lenses). All other cameras have their own motor to autofocus when non AF-S lens are attached.

The Nikon 17-55 f2.8 is a very expensive lens and isnt necessarily as great as its price tag would suggest http://www.photozone.de/nikon--nikkor-aps-c-lens-tests/231-nikkor-af-s-17-55mm-f28-g-if-ed-dx-review--test-report?start=1. If you want a fast zoom lens, consider the Tamron 17-50 f2.8, which is less than half the price and gives good results http://www.bythom.com/1750lens.htm

Actually personally I'm saving up for a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 so I guess it's good too :D. I'm not familiar with Nikon lens prices or their lineup (hence the generic lens advice in my previous comment), I suppose I should have known they were pricey.

Not sure about the better but definitely more convenient - Nikkor AF-S DX 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR (http://www.photozone.de/nikon--nikkor-aps-c-lens-tests/410-nikkor_18105_3556vr)

The Nikkor 17-55 f/2.8 goes for around $1500 - 1600 CDN new, or around $1000 used.
It's a fantastic lens but keep in mind that it doesn't pair as well with the D60 mainly due to its weight and size which is very disproportional compared to body... the lens is significantly heavier so the whole set up isn't well balanced and the front end is so big that it completely blocks out the AF-assist lamp rendering it useless. The Tamron 17-50 would be a much better fit... I would not advise the Nikkor 17-55 unless you're pairing it up with at least a D90 or D300.
