+1 ...make sure it's La Rocca ...and not the ones made by the staff of Loblaws...

We like Maxim's Cakes. We like the strawberry shortcake, orange chocolate, mango and hazlenut mocha cakes. They're great and not too sweet.

Bakery Nakamura from J-Town. Their cakes are not overly sweet but very flavourful. It's a bit pricier than some of the Chinese bakeries I used to get cakes from, but it's so much tastier.

If you are buying chinese style cakes it's going to blandish because it's cream based.

+1 for senses, my personal favourite though bit pricey.

Maxim is decent but Loblaws La Rocca is best bang for buck. La Rocca is often used by places like go for tea, just desserts and other like places.

For pure volume and sugar, buy desk sized cake from costco. A friend used it solely for slamming it into a friend's car along with his face

There's a place in Thornhill called Amadeus that I've tried many cakes from and enjoyed. Only problem is the price of the cakes and I hear the owners have a reputation for being racist... could just be hearsay though.

Thanks for starting this topic, I'll need a B'Day cake soon:) We normally go with DQ and love it, but it's always nice to try something different and nice.

Now that La Rocca cake, you only find it in Loblows? We don't have Loblaws around, only the Loblows Superstore.

Nah, you guys got it all wrong.. There's this place called "Wow Factor Desserts".. they supply to restaurants like Just Desserts, Mr. Greek, Fox n Fiddle and so on. They also sell to the public and their cakes are just amazing.

I actually just purchased a cake from them yesterday.

Here's their website : http://www.wowfactordesserts.com/products/tortes.html

I don't know about this place for sure but I do know that many restaurants and cafes get their cakes from Phipps in Toronto http://www.phippsbakerycafe.ca/index.html

They're cakes are very good. Don't be fooled by the pics on the site - they look way prettier in the store and in real.

But I must say, I am surprised no one has mentioned Dufflet. I've been buying my cakes at Dufflet for the last 18 years. I really like one that's called Turtle Fudge. Caramel, pecans, light airy meringue. Prices are similar to what you'll pay elsewhere ($24 for 6 inch cake). Plus, if you can't get to the shop, you can go to other retailers close by that sell the cakes and special order them no extra charge. I know Sun Valley Fine Foods on Danforth carries them, as well as all the Kitchen Tables in downtown Toronto.

I like Dufflet, but I think the quality's slipped a bit in recent years. For around the same price or a few dollars more I can get a really amazing cake at Patisserie la Cigogne (http://www.patisserielacigogne.com/cakes.html). They're on Bayview just south of Eglinton and are the most amazing and artistic cakes ever. If you like dark chocolate and raspberry the "Intense" cake is to die for. And they have little versions of most of their cakes as well, so sometimes I just get a few small ones for variety when I have people over.

My sister-in-law purchased a strawberry shortcake from Longo's and it was excellent. Not too sweet, creamy, and roch tasting. I'm sure it was loaded with calories but it was worth every km I ran to burn it off:)

Which one? La Rocca is a brand, they make lots of different cakes.

nono, I bought my cake in person and their cakes are really nice!.. Wow factor Desserts.

I realized one day that the cake I had at Just Desserts and Fox n Fiddle were the same cake so I asked who their supplier was and they told me about Wow Factor.

La Rocca is nice too but I would choose Dufflet over La Rocca anyday. I got a Dufflet cake for my mom's birthday and it was absolutely amazing.. it was a Coconut Banana cake.. simply delicious!
