UofT Mississauga student right now in 3rd year for biology. Wondering if I should hypothetically choose to transfer out, would McMaster be better the better option or Ryerson? I really wanted to go to McMaster when I was in high school and probably would have if I knew that you could get a GO Bus from Mississauga to McMaster. But it seems like a lot of people are going into health related programs at Ryerson as well (I'm more interested in molecular/genetics/biotech and not nursing).

Also, is it worth it or will I have to repeat a tonne of courses over again?

I'm thinking of maybe taking a summer course to sorta 'sample' how it is there but it's a process with a lot of hassles from those who say they've tried it.

Why do you want to transfer in your third year?

+1

Transferring after 1st year is ideal, after 2nd year is okay, but after 3 years?

You might as well finish your degree since you will be 75% done, then get another degree (which would take ~2 years, therefore 2 degrees in 6 years) rather than transferring and spending 6 years total in undergrad and only getting 1 degree

That's my question....if you do transfer, how many of your credits count/you get to keep or is it pretty much like starting from scratch?

If you took equivalent courses at UTM and want to transfer to Mac, the University will take those equivalent courses to your degree, that is if your program of study is related to the program you are applying to at Mac e.g. Life Sciences or Biology. Since most courses in Biology across Ontario/Canada are equivalent, there's no need to start from scratch.

But to better understand the transfer system and the equivalent courses, you should contact the university you are interested in applying.

And you should know that some universities only allow maximum of 50% of your credits to be transferred over for their degree and other 50% must be obtained at the new university.

It's not worth transferring this late to another university. Contact the University you are interested in to get additional details.
