Calling ALL RFD'ers...

For those whom are interested in starting a RFD team, reply to this thread (or PM me). If we have enough players (minimum 2 females) we can join an intermediate/rec league based on the skill level of the participants.

If anyone also has any links to any pick up games within the GTA / Mississauga region, feel free to post them here and I will update my original post accordingly.

Hopefully we can get a RFD team started and join a league! - it will probably be a weeknight (Mon, Tues, Wed, OR Thurs).

If you're in 'sauga why not go to Victory? http://www.victoryvolleyball.com/

I've only been there once but the facilities are pretty nice.

Some other leagues to look into: Not so pro, Outta Hand, TCSSC, YRSSC.

If you want pick ups, check out www.gtavolleyball.com quite a few locations.

Did you guys want to start an exclusive RFD team? I typically play intermediate, but I'm good for advance too.

Maybe we can get RFD to sponsor our team with team tshirts too haha :)

If we join an intermediate league, we might need a few ladies to join our team as well.

Are there any interested ladies who might want to play? I can try and find a league within GTA area

If I was any good I would be interested, but I just started playing again and I'm probably at the level below recreational. But it's fun and adds some variety to my primary sport, roller hockey.

Yep, that's the one. It's pretty fun cause it's only 4-on-4 indoors, on a regular 6's court. Less blocking. hehe

Hey, I thought I'd start contributing to RFD instead of lurking around for deals. Anyways, every friday at 9:45 pm I head to to North Beach, around Victoria Park and Lawrence, where they hold pickup volleyball until 2 am. There's a wide variety of skill level, and the people are great. Anyways, it'd be great to have more vball players come down, here's the site if your interested. http://www.northbeachvolleyball.com/

More vball players? I came last Friday and it was packed...4 courts were full of 6es and the last court had 5 teams waiting to play 2s..

I'm down for pick up. Maybe we can get a group together and play at north beach during their off-peak times, like Saturday afternoon. I think normally they charge $16 for pickup during that time but I'm sure we could get a group rate. The last time I went on Saturday afternoon I was there from 1-6:30ish.

And yeah, I went to N Beach on friday night with Mtx... damn rec 6s groups hogging all the courts :( Need more 2s courts.

i will add you too as well kimbot - i play at north beach on friday nights as well. i'm usually on the closer courts (near the entrance). if you go any back, they get more and more recreational and non-competitive.

I play at northbeach, highly recommend it. It is fun with 5's or 6's as more ground can be covered. I have made some crazy saves by diving, lotta fun!

Haha.. I feel the exact opposite. I find anything more than 2s soooo boring. 6s you're just standing there half the time. 2s is so much more fun cause you constantly get touches. Unfortunately North Beach is dominated by rec 6s groups :(

Lancer13

We usually play 4's, 3 back, 1 setting. It gives us the chance the move around more than you would in 6's, but its less tiring, and has longer rallies than 2's. At least that's what I think. I like Kimbots idea of getting some people together on a sat, and booking a court.

IMO Sand/beach volleyball is great for 2/3 on 2/3. Anymore will be less than ideal on a beach/sand platform. On a hard-court then 6 on 6 is ideal with some subs on the side-lines.

Hopefully a compromise can be reached.

Cool, just some additional information... i've played in most of these leagues or tournaments over the years. I usually play 4+2 coed or reverse in outtahand every year. I'd be semi-interested in an intermediate/adv team co-ed. I usually play setter or offside/backrow hitter. -sg

-Toronto Social Sports Club (courteousy of ji2o0k)
Not the greatest skill level, they rate it much too high for what they describe. nice social atmosphere though...

- Not So Pro (courteousy of ji2o0k)
Pretty much same level as TSSC, for the leagues. Same owner I beleive.

- Victory Volleyball (courteousy of Eyies)
Haven't played there, heard the courts are nice though

- Outta Hand (courteousy of Eyies)
Probably the highest calibre for coed stuff going on in the GTA. Plus ALL the games have good refs. All though balls+snacks aren't provided (for free) as TCSSC. Highly recommended for the intermed+adv level. The rec teams here would probably beat the advs in the other leagues btw. Registering is a bit of a pain as you have to call Mike (co-ordinator) or Ed directly.

- YRSSC (courteousy of Eyies)
Haven't played there.

Others;

Go West Athletics (mississauga)
- no refs but skill level is better than TSSC, no refs which is a bummer.

Scarborough Mens
- very competitive league, multiple divisions, i haven't played there in years but heard it is still quite decent.

I'd be interested in rec/intermed depending on where the courts are mainly located/game times

Oh I'm actually playing in the Durham league this season. It's pretty competitive at the two higher tiers, but my team sucks and we've dropped down to semi-competitive at the moment. It's somewhat expensive at about $333 for 25 weeks ($2000 team/we have 6 players).

Original Post updated with new members!

ok guys, so it seems like there are more interest in intermediate level playing than recreational - so I'm just going to try and set something up for intermediate rather than doing both. If this becomes a success, maybe I will try and organize something bigger for us RFD'ers - depending on my work schedule lol.

in any case, we still need min. 2 girls (unless everyone wants to join a men's league)?

I'm looking to get this team assembled and firmed up before the year ends (we can start by playing during the winter season). thoughts?

That actually sounds kinda expensive... their tourneys are $180/team. considering season long bball is usually around $150-175.

There is a 4-2 co-ed for outthand this weekend (which i'm playing). -sg
