There are three styles of ceramic knives in my Pickering Loblaw, from $15 to $25.
I bought the $15 all purpose 5" kitchen knife, and I'm impressed
I'll be back for the 6" chef's knife. There is also a Sankotu with a rocker edge.
My knife is super sharp, lightweight, handles well, and stainless. It has a good plastic guard. I expect it to last for a year, with care, then I'll replace it.
I do have reasonable hopes for this, as sharpening my French and Japanese knives is an ongoing chore.

If they can last a year that sounds like a pretty economical solution for the home user.

I think I will pick up a santoku one to try it out. I've never used a santoku or a ceramic...so lets kill some birds.

No one else interested huh? I picked up the santoku but its going back, I feel its a very poor product.
1. Build quality of the knife feels very nice.
2. Cover looks very nice but is extremely difficult to put on. You have to push it on with quite a lot of force and is not practical to be used daily. Also I feel its a bit dangerous the way you have to push so hard and pull so hard to get off because once it comes off your arm could swing and nick yourself.
3. It was not extremely sharp. I would say my knife was extremely dull. Maybe I got an off one, but I'm not going to try another.
4. The design of the knife did not feel good in my hand. If you hold it with your hand completely on the handle its unusable. if you use it with a pinch grip its OK but not very good.

Have never heard of a ceramic being extremely dull.
I consider the guard a necessary device, and it will break in as quickly as I adapt to it.
The point of these knives is easy accessibility to sharp edges, at very low prices, and no need to sharpen for a long time.
