Just curious..

Didn't want to post in the Sports section because i am more curious as to how much exercise a non-sportsy person gets in a week.

Physical exercise includes what you do in the bedroom, commuting to work by bike, etc.

I'll admit the last month has sucked for me..before that I was doing the gym or p90x daily....biking daily...

Am I reading "in the bedroom" correctly too? Cause I guess I'd add 5 sessions or so a week for that then too....

About 90 mins a day...

But including the bedroom - then I'd say about 92.

What do you do in the bedroom, by yourself, for 2 minutes?

I jog for 30 mins every other day.

Plus I walk for at least 50 min total everyday with a heavy backpack around uni campus. It takes me 20 min to walk from the parking lot to my first class lol.

When I was doing P90X, I was doing an hour pretty much every day, so 6-7 hours a week.

Now that I've stopped that, I do kung-fu (1 hour/week), Chinese weapons (1 hour/week), and Fencing (2 hours/week). I just started kickboxing this week (1 hour/week) and will likely continue. So right now I am doing at least 5 hours/week. 3 hours Tuesday, 2 hours Thursday.

It does vary a bit too. Some days I also do some walking, mostly on weekends and such, sometimes I'll do a 2-3 hour walk around downtown or something. But it's pretty much always a minimum of that.

I get about 5.5-6.0 hours/week

1.5 hours of weights x 3
30mins of cardio x 2-3

I excluded my walk to work (15mins both ways) though.

I barely have any free time, but the exercise I do get is specifically things I am interested in, and therefore I find it more motivated. I am learning things, and thus I want to continue doing it so I can learn more. And I don't want to miss time because then I fall behind.

I like the synergystic aspects of the stuff I do. The martial arts weapons I do can apply to fencing as well, especially once I begin the Jian, since the techniques are similar. But double chinese broadsword helps with my offhand control for fencing or using a parrying weapon. The kung-fu also helps with the fencing footwork. The kick-boxing and fencing help eachother with speed & reflexes/reaction time. The kung-fu also helps with the footwork for the martial arts weapons.

And while all these things help eachother, they also help build my overall speed, accuracy, endurance and strength. Not to mention they are a hell of a work out and I end up burning quite a few calories.

I find it way easier to keep doing something where I learn & enjoy, than sitting in a gym lifting weights, or running on a treadmill. I have a sense of improvement and progression, and achievement when I learn a new form. That is all motivation for me to keep it up.

Just for your curiosity...

I exercise anywhere from 2.5 hrs - 6 hrs a day which includes stretching, soccer, basketball, running, swimming, weight lifting, hot yoga, etc.

I exercise everyday. Maybe once in a month, I would take a day off.

Approximately, per week, I would hit between 20 - 40 hrs.

My body fat is at 7%.

So you do nothing else besides work and excercise. Im all for staying in shape, but if thats all you do, whast the point. Unless your job is a professional athlete

Do you work full time. Because if you do your schedule would be as follows, if you do everything in the evening. average 8 hour day

Work would take up from 7 to 5 (taking getting ready in the morning and to work, plus an hour lunch - on average)

Obvisouly you eat, so lets say an hour for that after work, so till 6.

Then you work out for 2.5 - 6 hours, so that take you from about 8:30 pm to 12 am.

Then your supposed to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night.

I can see the 2.5 hours, an hour in the morning and 1.5 at night. But the 6 hours on a weekday, dont buy it, unless your unemployed

Im all for you posting your schedule for a week.

Seriously. My tuesday schedule is:
work 8am-4:30, get home around 5pm
Grab something quick, change, and head to kick boxing for 6pm-9pm
Get home around 9:30pm
Go to sleep.

The days I do work out, I literally have no time for anything else if I still want to sleep.

You spend the same amount of time that many professional athletes spend on their physical side of training...

I don't think he is a professional athlete. What he does (soccer, basketball, swimming, hot yoga) seems much too diversified. He is either unemployed, or does something sports related. My guess: unemployed.

ok, so 3 hours. Where does the 6 hours come from??

Like I said, Im all for excercise, but you said it right there " literally have no time for anything else "

If thats the case, no thanks. Id rather forsake an hour of excercise if your already getting some anyway to have some fun time with family or friends

And definitly from that scheudle he only has himself to worry about, no SO or kids. I mean who needs a girlfriend when Ive got excercise

Yes, I have a full time job. I get up around 5am and start working at 6:30ish. I don't take breaks at work. I work out 2-2.5 hrs during lunch time. I have a quick lunch at my desk after. I leave work around 5pm. At night, I have sports, yoga, or/and simple exercises and stretches.

On some nights, I have 2 soccer games (3 hrs).

Who the hell gets 2-2.5 hours for lunch!? I get 30 minutes!

And yes spidey, I was agreeing with you. I do 3 hours one night, and 2 hours another, and it's tough to fit in. Hell, 1 hour a night for P90X was hard enough to fit in as well when I was still doing it. Personally I value free time highly, and try to take advantage of it as much as possible. I can do with having no free time 2 nights a week, but I need other times where I can socialize, or even just decompress.

I was thinking that as well, 2-2.5 hour lunch? Unless he has 2 part time jobs and thats the break between the 2.

Ive gave up a lot of excercise stuff I used to do. I gave up kickboxing/karate at night just because it was causing so much stress to try and get to every night with 3 kids and all their activities.

While I enjoy excercise and working out, if I get a call from someone saying lets go out to the movie or a beer tonight. Ill be doing that instead of 3 hours of excercise.

Remember you need to have social wellbeing as well, and thats a big part of your overall wellbeing as well. Just as much as getting physical excercise.

I don't get in a whole lot of hours. I'd like to do more, but my life/schedule just doesn't allow for it.

Currently:

Work-out at gym: 3x1 hr a week. Mix of cardio and strength
Hockey: 1x1 hr a week.
Boxing: 1x1hr a week.

Haven't gone for a run or bike ride in ages. I'll go hit the heavy bag at home for like 5 minutes every so often btu those don't count.

So about 5 hrs :P

For me, I am almost always too tired during the week for a social life, so I rarely go out other than exercising on weeknights. But at the same time, I like the groups I do the stuff with, so that is also some socialization at the same time. Thats why I prefer it over a gym environment. In a gym I usually just throw on headphones and go lift weights or run on an elliptical. But with martial arts and kick-boxing and fencing, it is all done with other people, so we sorta socialize at the same time.

Mainly though, my social life is restricted to Friday night - Sunday afternoon. My weekends are when I hang out with my friends, and Because I only have 2.5 days a week which I am completely free, usually I am so booked I have plans weeks in advance. As it stands, I now have plans every weekend until the last weekend of November. Not being busy on weekends is rare for me.
