There is a new Ninja movie coming out this November called Ninja Assassin starring Korean pop star Rain. To me this looks like a pretty promising westernized martial arts movie and there seems to be very little publicity on it so far. I figured I will start a thread on this since no one has done so already...

Here's the official trailer:

This movie is produced by the Wachowski brothers who are most known for creating the Matrix Trilogy. Although I am not a fan of Rain, I am looking forward to seeing this in the theatres! Also, it is rated R in the States so I hope there will be some really cool ass kicking in it.

Saw the screener last week.

Good mindless action flick with a lot of gore. It's more of a renter though.

Fast and Furious fans will love the end ;)

Looks good.. I'll definitely give ie a shot when it comes out.. But again like someone said above, this is something that I would rent and watch with a few of my boys.. If there's really no good storyline, etc.

Looks pretty sweet for the action. I'm not even big on action movies, but it looks pretty sick.

I think I'd rather see it on the big screen.

I've always thought that a hedge trimmer would make a great weapon. I wonder if Ninja Assassin alows for this.

It's getting some horrible reviews.

Watched this today...I liked it but was slightly dissappointed

The very first scene was insanely good with lots of gore but the rest of the movie did not deliver in the ass kicking department...The scenes were too dark for the most part and in most of them I could not clearly see what was going on... Just people screaming and blood splattering all over the screen. I was sort of expecting the same level of "butchering" in Kill Bill but there really wasn't that much except in the first scene...It was slightly more stylish than I hoped.

It's a B movie with a bigger budget. How did Rain become so big in Korea when he's so ugly?

Saw it on Friday. Went in with low expectations --> wasn't disappointed :) It was a decent action movie. They could have cast the female agent better :)

Just saw this tonight. Did anyone else think they were originally aiming to make it 3-D?

I think Rain became popular because of his dancing skills... many friends have commented that he is not that good-looking (like Jay Chou)

i think it has more to do with the popular Korean Drama Full House.

I love anything with Ninja and anything with Assassins ... but this movie was LAME

90% of the fights were in the dark and you couldn't see much. To me it was a completely cheap way of creating the ninja mystery.

The story was beyond stupid. I understand movies like this don't have decent scripts and maybe my expectations were too high considering this was basically the same team that did V For Vendetta (which I liked). The whole time I just kept thinking that all they did was recreate a video game ... a video game is fun to play, boring to watch

This movie was a HUGE disappointment. It could have been so much better. Somebody above had it spot on ... the was a B movie with a big budget

I also hated this movie. To me, it seemed like it was directed by Michael Bay, (spoilers) with the army getting in there just shotting the hell out of ninjas? And what the hell was with their super powers, being able to heal themselves and completely disappear from plain sight while in light?

The plot was laughable, and the action, a lot of it was too dark or they would disappear and re-appear somewhere else so you barely see anything anyway. Over, I wouldn't watch the movie again. No way.

I'd watch it again. It was cool. I'm usually picky about movies too. You have to go into it not expecting it to be amazing. Common, what do you expect from a movie called "Ninja Assassin". Seriously now.

i'm getting a sense that even with little to no expectations this movie failed

Pretty much. I went in expecting basically no plot, but well choreographed fight scenes. There were a few decent scenes, but a lot of them were either too dark, or movement was too fast to actually see what was happening.

I'd rate it below Transformers 2.

First off, I love pure martial arts movies. I love those intense training scenes, revenge plot lines and cheesy one liners. Most of all though, its awesome when one man achieves his goal.

So, obviously, this movie rocked! The action was great (which was non-stop), scenes were shot very well and the antagonist was badass.

I thought they did a good ninja job and also reminded me of ninja gaiden 2 (ps3)
ultimate technique move on the boss was awesome.
I thought specially the fight scene in her apartment was really well done. The moving in and out of shadows, the ninjas moving silently, unseen and coming out of nowhere was great.

I enjoyed Ninja Assassin, especially the whole "school of pain" backstory which set-up the main fight sequences. It's definitely a b-movie, though with a b+ budget. The incredibly dark look gave it a stylish boost, and FTR, I thought Rain did a fine job as the protagonist (I loved his reaction to the boy band insult - heh!).

8 out of 10.
