if you need discs for your xbox 360 backups in a hurry...not the best deal I've seen, but better than anything else I can find right now (except maybe ncix $36 for a 30pk, but once you factor in shipping not so great).

this might be a bit of a better deal, also if you spend at least $100.00 or more at NCIX, you get $3.00 shipping

The deal is so-so, It's like $1.66 per disc, I would rather hold out for Best Buy's or Future Shop's sale when they have their 20 pack for $20 or whatever it is.

You'll see deals on memorex, maxell, etc often around $1/disc. But from all the forums I've read, nothing compares to Verbatim and other discs may actually damage your drive over time. Not sure how true that is, but I'd rather play it safe.

Instead of the +R, aren't the -R DL better for backyups? :cheesygri

These are 1.78+tx as a 10pack.
The higher speed ones are 1.70+tx as a 15pack.

So if you're doing 360 backups, I don't think this is really any better a sale at CC then the usual for 0.08/disc.

7 coasters, 1 successful burn on a Memorex brand DL. Burnt at different speeds, and surprisingly, the successful burn was at 4x (failed at 2x, 2.4x, and 4x).

Just wondering, what kind of burner?

Yeah seems to be all about which burners have the proper firmware to burn to the cheaper discs that use a different structure for the second layer if I understand correctly.
Anyone w/ a Panasonic Matshita UJ-857E (macbook) have consistent success with anything cheaper than verbs?

not a bad deal. but bewarned - wave4 discs are starting to come out - Cars Race-o-rama is the first one and will not work with magic 360s unless they are updated... even then it might not work.

From my own experience, this has generally been the case. Cheap media and a good burner (with proper firmware) will generally produce acceptable results, and less chances of coasters. Good media and good burner will produce good results. YMMV and only with your own scans can you determine which media is best for your burner. Use other people's scans to give a general idea of how the media behaves in general, as your experience can be completely different. Also keep in mind that the scans can be skewed depending on what is doing the scanning. From what I recall, you shouldn't be using the same burner to scan as you did to burn the disc. This is not to say what people have posted is wrong though, just something to keep in mind when looking at other people's scans (along with the speed they are scanning at, DVDRW vs DVDRom, etc).

As for this deal, the deal is okay, we've seen better deals but as the OP said, if you are desperate for DLs, this is an okay deal.

FS just had a sale on these about a month or two ago...the 30 packs I believe...they were cheap. Search it in the search bar dropdown...if you can hold out, that deal was good and it's been pretty frequent the last few months...

[edit] Okay found the thread:
http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/fs-verbatim-20-pack-2-4x-dvd-r-dl-24-99-a-785739/

it was from the beginning of September. 20-pack for $24.99, I think it was $22.99 for a few days first as well....

The Fuji Dual Layers are also on sale at FS (15 for $17.99):

I haven't had a problem burning 360 backups with these (except on Macbook). I burn with a Benq drive with CloneCD and my 360 has a Benq drive (my old RROD'd 360's had Toshiba and Hitachi and these worked with those as well).

I ordered my 30 pack from NCIX last Friday along with a few other goodies and they arrived this morning. Last 30 pack I picked up for this price was from Futureshop on March 20, 2009 and the last time before that was in January. I think they will go on special again soon as Futureshop has been known to repeat these sort of deals on blank media.

it will defiantly work once the firmware is updated

it works now, you just need a disc to tell the drive to force boot it

it not really about coaster burns - the cheaper discs will degrade over time and will become unplayable. It may also put stress on your drive's laser as it trys to read the discs

LG burner, about 6 months old.
I just burnt two DL Verbatim DVDs and they work perfectly fine. Worth the extra cost.

how do the costco tdk $39.99 for 50 DVD+R DL discs compare to these best of the best VERBATIM DVD+R DL discs for 360 back up games?

price is so much cheaper for the tdk over these verbatims but if it will damage 360 drive laser or get coasters then nevermind!!

a coworker uses these and has had no coasters and they all burn fine and play fine for 360 back up games but is it going to be ok long run?

i appreciate and thank anyone who can help answer mine and many others im sure in knowing for sure what the best media (with price/performance factored in) to back up 360 games is!!

Honestly, I don't see the problem in Memorex/Fujifilm/Ridtek/Cheap media. I've had recovery disks, burnt PC games, storage disks in a range of these media, and all of them still work to date (I have disks that can range up to 6 years old).

Especially for the Memorex Dual Layer DVDs, I have never had a coaster in my lifetime of using them (I think I've burnt 100+) on XBOX 360 games, to recovery DVD's, to DVD9 PC games. They still work to date.

As for the disk reading error on the XBOX 360, I can't say I've had personal experience because I use Memorex disks...but the people I've talked to who are in the XBOX "backup" scene have yet to have a problem with read errors. Maybe it's only the people who use their XBOX 8+ hours a day and don't copy their game to their hard drive (for frequently played games). Although this could probably happen to anyone, even those who only use Verbatim.

Unless your burner is a coaster maker, go with Memorex if you want your best bang for the buck.

It's all about how long the disc will last, after the initial burn. One shouldnt need to baby the disc (as in use it less). If you feel the need to do that, then what's the point of saving 40 cents?

You know what's sad... CC up their price back to $30 for 15 pack, that's $2/disc + tax. I was so desperate I actually went to Pmall to get some... but they ran out lol... Both Pmall, and Kennedy sold out...

console bans are now happening. myself and a couple friends got console banned. Just need to buy a new 360 to get on live again.

But if you are modded, stay off live.

That's because some silly people are playing games on live before they're released officially or playing new Wave 4s that haven't been patched. :)

I mean really now

YOu're still safe on Live as long as your backup is patched properly.

keep thinking that :)

as of today it is all rumors...nobody knows if it is bad backups or the firmware that is being detected...there have been cases of people with "everything patched and verified" and people that had just bought the 360 and put on the firmware without playing a backup yet and still banned.

Pioneer seems to be popular in the research that I have done so far.

I have a 112D I think, and its one of the good ones.
