It says with purchase of any computer, but it also says "special price 29.99" and if you add it to your cart it shows up as 29.99. So, the OP is suggesting that you order online and do a 1hr ISPU before they catch on.

I've been using a Kodak 5100 for over a year now, $23 for color & black ink together, so I don't have to buy this one but since it's listed for $109 at FS http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&dm=DEBUG&sku_id=0665000FS10126557&catid= I can't resist.

I've been using the Kodak 5100 too. Got that deal from RFD. Great price on ink. But my 5100 has stopped working. I don't use it very much, months may go by without printing. The ink dried up. got new ink, did the printhead cleaning routine but it still won't print. Reading online it sounds like I might need to replace the printhead. Buying this HP printer is cheaper, so that's what I did. The ink for the HP probably isn't as cheap as the Kodak ink though.

Seems to happen with all types of electronics with proprietary supplies and accessories. Probably my biggest loss of that sort was my 8mm camcorder, as I had spare tapes, battery, etc, and more importantly I lost playback of recorded memories on my old 8mm tapes. Does anybody know of an affordable player/camcorder still available to playback 8mm video tapes? :?:

And how much will a new set of cartridges for this printer cost? HP carts seem to halve in capacity each generation, so I doubt the included ink will last long. Better to buy a printer that's worth keeping for a few years, rather than generating yet more eWaste with this one.

Are THEY still around even? I haven't noticed any 8mms is a while.
The sad thing is, my Canon was working well until one of the guide rollers broke. I took it in to Canon for a "repair" (over $150 flat rate) and over several attempts (and several long drives to Mississauga) they only managed to kil it completely. (I'll never trust a "repair technician" again, after the experiences that me and my friends have had). At that point I decided enough was enough and moved on to a new non-8mm camcorder instead. But that still left everything else 8mm orphaned. >:(

I think I'm going to cancel this order as they reviews are pretty bad. Also, I prefer to have separate ink cartridges. This one only has two (one for black, one for colour). I just won't go to the store to pick it up. They'll cancel the order within 3 business days.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000086G0D/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&qid=1255976370&sr=8-6&condition=used
Couldn't tell you 100% if they will play 8mm or not, but you should be able to tell with a bit of hunting...
New ones for $800 if you'd like, too, but that's a bit much...
Edit...some even cheaper here...

Thanks, but even the used ones would be a gamble. They migh also have been "repaired", like mine supposedly was. I suspect the techs took the guts from an identical camcorder that was being returned at the same time as mine (that owner bought a refurb instead) and likely stuck it inside my case without a proper checkup. One thing's for sure, I'll never deal with Canon Canada's repair guys again. 3 or 4 tries, and each time a new, worse problem. And they kept my money too. >:( All they would offer was a refurb, for yet more money. Likely with yet more problems. Won't get fooled again...

The printhead is the weak link in this printer, they commonly go awry after 6 months. Kodak has great customer service, when my printhead went kaput I called up their CS and they shipped me a new printhead and a pair of cartridges. I was so happy with their CS that about a month before my guarantee expired I called them up and pretended that the printhead died again, now I have an extra just in case.

I received a delivery last week from a guy that was coughing away into his wrist. I think I'll skip deliveries for the next while, unless the couriers get their shots done quick. They should be considered "priority" cases I would think, along with transit/taxi drivers, etc.

Can't deny having the same thought. When I have to sign it is always a relief when they use carbon paper receipt and my own pen, that little transponder thing must have a few thousand hands all over it in a day. Being a bit of a germophobe i always wash immediately or use Purel. Fist bump! :cheesygri

I wasn't meaning anything personal. Just observing that if everybody starts doing that it will end up costing us all down the line.
So, it's a well-known problem? Guess I'll stay away from Kodak too then. Though their ink does seem more reasonably priced, due to not having to constantly replace the printhead.

Ever considered refilling yourself? If the cartridge is refilled before it's completely empty/dry, should last you a while. It's pretty easy to do with these cartridges, just google for detailed instructions. U can get a kit on ebay for ~$8 shipped to your door, will refill a couple times at least. Rumour is the top 3 low-end printer brands have an electronic expiration date in the cartridges killing them off even when there's ink left.
I'm moving to laser printing, I'm tired of all this waste from buying a new printer every year after a failed refill kit each.

Sounds like it. This Deskjet should work with Vista 32bit, but may run into problems if you update to Win 7 64bit. Each OS update seems to bring new driver problems. In effect, it's forced obsolescence through outdated drivers. Unless there's a big outcry, that is. Then updated drivers might eventually become available, but usually only after most people have been forced to buy a new replacement product.

Should really stop calling it TSCC, since technically The Source is now owned by BELL, not Circuit City...
Why not just call it TSBB? The Source by Bell?

Some places dont give the option for 1 hour pickup you shouldnt worry about the 3-5 days its saving 5$ instead of shipping u also shouldnt have any problems getting it.
BTW the printer is great but it runs thruogh ink pretty quick though.

It's the Environmental Handling Fee, mandatory for many types of electronics these days. Here's a page on the Lenovo site that breaks it down by province:

As much as I hate hidden taxes, environmental taxes for printers actually make a lot of sense. Since nowadays most consumer grade printer are cheaper than their ink/toner cartridges, unless the government tacks on an extra tax consumers will just keep on buying new printers and tossing working but inkless printers in the trash.
It's very obvious that printer manufactures are selling their printers below cost, but the government can't use the anti-trust laws to prosecute them because the entire industry is doing it. Thus the only solution is the environmental tax.

Rumour is the top 3 low-end printer brands have an electronic expiration date in the cartridges killing them off even when there's ink left.
I'm moving to laser printing, I'm tired of all this waste from buying a new printer every year after a failed refill kit each.
Just take the battery out of the printer for a minute or two. It resets the internal clock in the printer and expired cartridges work again. I have done it on an older HP MFP.

The newer ones don't have the battery accessible without breaking the printer. I trie don my F4280, can't even find it, I took it completely apart and disconnected all the wires too, didn't work. Driver editing didn't work either.

The fact that a perfectly decent scanner gets thrown out at the same time is even more of a waste. But how many scanners does anyone need? If manufacturers want to continue irresponsibly producing "disposable" printers to clog our landfills then they ought to at least keep them as basic printers, to limit the wastefulness.
The real question here though is: WHY CAN'T THEY REDUCE REPLACEMENT INK PRICES TO REASONABLE LEVELS? :?: It has to be better all around for users to just replace the ink, not the entire printer. Somebody needs to make them accountable for this wastefulness. Maybe the enviro tax should be used to sue the manufacturers and distributers for dumping all this non-decomposing plastic in our landfills. That might finally force them to change their ways.

So is it true the HP printer will tell you the cartridge is expired after a certain time period? If so, does anyone know approximately how long is the cartridge lifespan? Is there anyway to bypass this on this printer? Someone on Youtube said just turn the printer off, turn back the time on the computer, turn the printer on, and print...
I wonder if this is still a good deal after knowing the cartridge will expire and having wait and look for another printer deal to come up before then.

Yeah, but most new printers (including this one) come with only a limited starter cartridge. It's part of the trick that gets people grabbing wasteful "deals" like this, thinking they are getting more than they really are. How much would 200 photo prints cost at your local store? Almost certainly much less than $30. So that's the real way to go, for anybody just buying it for the ink.
It's okay if you still don't have a scanner though, so long as the scanner isn't crippled when an ink cart runs out (as I've heard some do >:().

Went to two Bestbuys over the past 2 days... first time was the Queensborough location and I brought a printout of my invoice and they would only match the price (but not beat it).
The next day (yesterday) I went to the Cambie location and brought both my invoice and a printout of that receipt from a few pages back. At first they wouldn't even give me a match, but luckily the fella next to me was also a RFD'er and had JUST successfully got a price match for $22 at the Metrotown location that morning. He showed them HIS receipt and eventually we managed to convince them to do the price match.
Interestingly, a part of the conversation went somewhat like this:
*Shows them the Metrotown receipt*
Me: "So he got the pricematch at Metrotown earlier in the day"
CS: "Well, this is Cambie, not Metrotown"
Me: "*sarcasm*Really??"
I tried to get two units with that price match (my gf needed a new printer too), but they would only do the price match for one saying that it was a "special case" and that they were "doing me a favor." Oh well, still a great deal for $22! :D

If I really cared about the $8 difference, I would've went to another BB to try to get the second one. But I'm happy with succeeding once, so I'll take it and still keep the one I got at The Source as the one for my gf. :)

looks like the source finally fixed it!
it looks dead, $99 now
HOWEVER:
THE HP 4280 is still 29.99 (they didn't fix this one)

Doesn't look like it can be bought online, though!

Was about to buy the printer this am at the $29.99 price and thought....
I don't need an other printer, do I?. Checked now and up to $99.99. Maybe I really did need another printer? :(

For 29.99, this is great. Seems like a notch up from the Canon MP240 too. Scanning quality is excellent, maybe a little slower than the MP240, and the printing's just a plus for me since all I needed was a scanner.

You can buy this one online, is it pretty much the same printer just a different color or does it have less features?

I hope the OP will change the model to 4280 so this thread will not go to expired deals.

I think somewhere along the reviews on 4480 that i had read, there were some ppl coming from the 4280 complaining about stuck queuing issues.. (good idea to read up on it -- not sure if its addressable)

It's possible it might be better. Being an earlier model it might have larger carts. Then again, they may be that much closer to expiring. Anybody who already has a reasonably decent printer would probably be better off just getting the ink for that one refilled.

I just checked my CC bill, TSCC already charged me the day they shipped my printer to my local TSCC store but I haven't picked it up yet. If I don't pick it up within 3 business days, will they refund me?

I saw this printer at RCSS today for $50... perhaps a good "Plan B" if TSCC runs out.

For those of you that bought a 4480. I picked mine up last week (ordered online, delivered to closest store). On the weekend I tried to get it working. I used the USB printer cable I was using with my previous printer (and it seemed to work fine).
I get to the part of the install where it asks for you to connect the USB cable and I do so, but it never recognizes the connection. Has anyone else had this problem?
I've googled for help and did run some HP scrubber utility and then downloaded the drivers from HP's site instead of using the CD that came with the printer, but no luck.
It may in the end be my printer cable, but before I go and buy a new one I wondered if anyone else was having this problem?

I never had a problem. I attached a regular A-B USB cable when it asked me to (not before like it says on the instructions) and it recognized it immediately. Might be just your cable.
