If anyone's wondering why "boneless" chicken/wings are all the rage lately.... there was a recent story in the NYT saying how the price of chicken wings/lb has climbed above that of chicken breast/lb for the first time ever.

These new boneless chicken servings (i.e. chicken breast) aren't so much to tempt your tastebuds, but rather as a cheaper substitute for chicken wings. So if restaurants are charging these boneless portions even higher than that of regular wings....you're really being gouged at the cash register.

This offer is BURNING HOT like a GREASE FIRE.

Oct 20th, 2009, 09:49 AM
This looks good, but if you read the offer it says 'for 1 piece'. Does this mean for 1 small piece of chicken, or for 1 small order?
If it's the size of a large chicken nugget, lol, then I think I'll pass.

True - I was at Sam's Club in Niagara Falls NY a couple of weeks ago - Wings were $73 for a 40lb case. Boneless skinless chicken breasts were $53 for a 40lb case.

That's truly bizarre - slice the breasts into strips and give me chicken fingers over chicken wings any day of the week.

I guess Harvey's hasn't warned KFC about what happens if you issue internet coupons.

I wonder if KFC can even IMAGINE the insane, chicken-hungry crowds this will attract.

This is not a coupon, this is a walk in promotion.

Last time they had a freebie coupon was the PETA fiasco, and even if you could find a location that had the vegetarian sandwich, they refused to accept the coupon and said complain to HQ (which I did and got nowhere). Complained to PETA too.

Don't issue coupons you don't intend on accepting.

Even better, you should lineup at Saint-Viateur for the best bagels in the world instead.

The KFC boneless chicken giveaway was a fiasco in the U.S. with every location running out and lots of angry people. At least there's a raincheque, so they've learned from their experience.

Also, I've read that's it's tasty, but it's been revealed that it's because it has some beef favour added to it. Cooked in beef broth or something like that, I don't recall the details. Col. Sanders isn't that good in keeping secrets nowadays.

meh, I've been to Montreal enough times (last time was 2 months ago), so I'll get a sandwich from Schwartz, but I go to the take out section now instead of lining up for a table. I did the lineup thing when i was younger, but now I can't be bothered.

I don't think I've ever had to line up at Saint Viateur, apart from maybe a few people in front of me.

Here's a recent article in the NY Times about boneless chicken wings as a result of rising wing prices.

and a story on CNBC

I tried these the other day. Expensive at 26.99 for 8 fillets and nothing else, but wanted to see. Does chicken come prepped to KFC, or do they bread it in the back? I ask because this was the most ridiculously salty KFC I have ever had. I've noticed that sometimes its more, and sometimes less salty (original recipe), but this we could not even eat.

Apart from that, the amount of meat in each fillet is good, more than your average chicken piece. Not much else to say about it though. I think I had 2009 + 2010's share of sodium.

The express locations are the ones that are marked express (that don't sell chicken pieces).

Got mine at the drive thru without any line up or trouble. Didn't even have to buy anything. Fresh and hot, too.

Dunno if I'd pay $20 for 6 of these... but it's definitely worth trying!

The location I went to almost always has a fair amount of customers, but they were completely empty today.

The fillet was decent, but I don't think I'd every buy it over their regular chicken.

There was almost no one at the location I went to. Went in, clerk entered the order, grabbed a box and was out in less than 30 seconds.

Tastes not bad, but wouldn't actually ever pay for it. At least it seemed moist and not dry.

I tried one of their free fillets this afternoon, and boy was it tiny - it was a triangle about 2" on each side sitting in a small corner of that big box they serve it in. It wasn't bad tasting and quite moist for skinless white breast meat, though crazy salty of course.

But if that's the size of the actual product that you have to pay $4+ for regular, it is definitely not worth it.

Or, if they're skimping on the size of the free trial, then they're wasting their money on this kind of promotion. The freebie should be huge and impressive to lure you back with cash in hand next time.

My filet was quite large. It's a good freebie but I found it too salty, and I looooove my salt.

Would never pay $3.99 for it.

I just got back from shopping with my daughter and on the way home we dropped by a KFC drivethru.
The only car in front of us pulled away just as we drove up to the window so the total wait time was less than 1 minute.
Then we decided to drive home the long way which took us by another KFC and I ran in and grabbed another one so we each could have a whole fillet. No customers were there so I waited no more than 1 minute.
My daughter pointed out that the first bag felt heavier than the second.
When we got home we found out that we got 2 fillets at the first KFC and each of those were bigger than the fillet that we got from the second location.
Our impressions were that they were very tasty but had way too much salt.
Not worth the regular price but I am glad that we tried them.

My fillet was small, dry, no juice and super salty, , I would never pay for it again..!!

I guess I wasn't the only one who found it to be too salty. I wonder if they put extra salt so that you would buy a drink. If they did, it backfired because I would never buy the fillet because of the salt. At $3.99, it is also too expensive.

Agree with everyone above. Didn't find it too salty, but is KFC management crazy thinking they can charge $3.99 for this crap? But then again, people are willing to pay $4.99 if they include the bun and some lettuce ...

It was sad at my store, coz we cooked so many boneless chicken, but nobody came in for it!!!!
We had cooked like 200 Boneless chicken, and I think only served around 60 by 4PM.....

So much of it went in the garbage :(

Looks like the same size as the $1.39 junior chicken sandwiches from McDonalds. I think I'll stick to those.

Okay, I got 4 pieces from 2 different locations (and fillets from 1 location were noticeably better than the other). In both cases, they are not small, but CLEARLY overly salty; and no, I won't pay $3.99 for 1.

For those who got small and/or dry ones, you're just unlucky; or it could well be a warning sign that particular store is not doing things right (so don't buy from there in the future).

EDIT: And yes, no lineups (not even 1 single customer before me) at either location.

Mine was perfect. Hot, large, juicy and not too salty. Then again I got mine exactly at 2pm ... no lineup. If this came on a whole wheat bun with topping ... that'll rock. It'll make an awesome sandwich. :cheesygri:D
