I think generally people have been happy with this mouse, most of the reviews I've read are favourable. The MX518 is like the grandfather of the G5, and Logitech recently release the G500 which is the sucessor of the G5.

I think it can be said that the MX500 series of mice are considered the greatest mice every made. Reliable, precise, sturdy, and no bells and whistles.

Says OOS during checkout process now, at least for me. I placed an ISPU order when it was in stock, they better not say its OOS....

Nah, the MX500 is the grandfather of Logitech's gaming series. It went MX500 -> MX510 -> MX518 -> G5

I have a MX510 and its fantastic. I have to use MX518 drivers for Win7 x64 if I want to use all the mouse buttons, but that doesn't cause any problems at all. It's a very durable mouse. I've owned my 510 for 7 years now. Buttons don't feel cheap like an MX400 i.e. buttons have great bounce.

My only con is sweat build up from sweaty palms shows on the plastic quite easy, but I just take an edge of a business card to scrape it all off every once and a while.

You mean you had the MX510. There was only ever one color for MX518; MX510 had red and blue.

Anyway, I gave my MX518 to my parents and moved on to a Razer DeathAdder. It has its pros and cons, but overall I'd say it's a better mouse.

i agree with that...its appen really often, so...buying from this web store, its like playing loterie for me. i buy, cross my finger, if i got what i buy, im happy, if not...i just waste my time. what a great way to do business....

The price is 22.97 the .97 usually signifies Clearance products (i think?) so i wouldn't be surprised that FS is clearing these out in preparation for the new G500 Mouse which could be reason for limited stock everywhere.

I think with this much of a discount is usually for end of line products. The company wants to clear out the inventory of this model because they are not going to order more. And they set the price to be very attractive so they can clear them out fast and have room for new models.

So we have a situation where both price and quantity are low. So if you are not fast enough, you will get OOS.

Its not fair to blame the company for OOS in this situation. What they can do may be to raise the price so it will not be OOS as fast. Which is not necessary a better way to go.

I had the MX510 and eventually the scroll wheel stopped scrolling. I mean, the wheel still rotated, but the mouse didn't detect it rotating. I miss that mouse! It was otherwise great.

I've had this mouse for a while now more than 4 years, and it still works great. I would say i game moderately to high. (2-3 hours a day avg) and it still works fine, some of the color is fading, and you can definitely see the wear and tear, but the mouse itself works fine as always and it is very comfortable. I really like the angle and curve as it fits my hand perfectly.
Overall a good solid mouse!

Classic gaming mouse and rated one of the best even against the likes of more modern gaming mice with new fandangled lazerz and what not.

This review shows how optical sensors are better for low sensitivity gaming (most FPS players) and that the latest and greatest lazerz are more about marketing than actual improvements. (review is actually for Razer Deathadder but it references a comprehensive test made with all mice circa 2007).

Great price if you can find one.

My only problem with this mouse was that it feels weird after your hands get a little sweaty. Not ideal for an intense game that goes for a long time.

Other than that it is amazing.

Yep I've been very very disappointed in gaming when optical mouses came out so I stuck with my old ball mouse with the hacked mhz trick, until I did my research and got the MX500, I haven't really found a better mouse since. This mouse obviously took a beating as I have had to open her up and do some repairs every now and then lol... The plastic pieces under the left/right buttons that push the little clicky button got worn to **** to the point they don't contact the little clicky button anymore, this has happened to past mice as well, but some tape scissors and a piece of plastic and a touch of ingenuity and shes good as new. Curious if this happens to anyone else? Or am I just that hardcore a pc gamer?

I had to do this with an old Logitech 2 button mouse that I just loved. Mind you, this was when Diablo 2 was all the rage and I was clicking furiously for hours!

I still use a 5~6 years old MX510 (red) daily. It works as well as when it was new.

This is probably the crappiest mouse I ever owned.
Sure it's comfortable and nice but its so cheap... after a few months the paint starts coming off and then a the rubber-like material starts pealing.
I owned an MX 510 and this never happened so looks like Logitech is getting cheaper and cheaper with years...

I am still using a 6 year old MX500, and other than the little plastic 'feet' having fallen off, it works and looks the same as it did when it was new. This, and my 7 year old soundblaster audigy are the only pieces of hardware that I have no plans to replace anytime soon.

I haven't played a FPS in about 3 years, and when I do play video games I play console ports on the PC using an Xbox 360 gamepad, which is probably why I have yet to experience those issue with my MX500.

Yah I agree about the fugliness. One thing I didn't like about Logitech is how they started making all their gaming mice so shiny and colorful. It went even more silly when they came out with the G series. There's a good crowd of adult gamers who want a good gaming mouse that doesn't look like a toy (the same crowd that drives nice cars without spoilers and body kits).

I have an MX500 and MX518 also that are still both going strong and still gamed with on a regular basis. I personally went with a Razer Deathadder after trying out some newer Logitechs and not really liking them. I wish that logitech made a gaming mouse in the Revolution style, but somehow they think that all gamers want cracked teal or some other weird style.

My GF is using my old mx500 for her laptop. I picked up an mx400 laser from FS for $15

I have to say my favourite mouse ergonomically was the old logitech mouseman. I have big hands and it fit me perfectly. The newer logitechs seem to be made smaller. Of course the ball sucked compared to optical and laser.
