Hello,

I would like some advice from you if you have any helpful information or expertise in purchasing mens' suits.

I want to buy one with very good quality and a slim-fitted, modern style (nothing conservative). I want something that will last a long time and not have the stitches come out or the buttons falling off after a few months. I am willing to spend up to $1000. My size is 36R.

Could anyone help with regards to:
1. Which stores to visit (I already visited Tom's place, Moore's, the Bay, Stonehouse, Sears, Mexx, Club Monaco, Banana Republic)?

2. Which brands to invest in?

3. Any other general tips for those new to buying suits?

Thanks, I appreciate any feedback!

if you willing to spend up to 1k, then why don't you go custom?

Spiros is a local tailor in Danforth that have a winter special (like $75 off).

If you can afford to wait a bit longer, you can go with 5th on King.
www.sprezzatura.ca

I'm still waiting for the final verdict on this one but it seems both of them are reputable (Spiros been around for a while but it's more old-school and you need to know what you want while Sprezzatura maybe more up to date with current styles and willing to help you find what you want)

or if u want to a be a bit riskier but get a great deal, try indochino or some foreign websites

I agree with the poster above me. If you're going to spend up to $1000, might as well go custom.

I'm in the same boat as the OP.
Been looking around for a quality fitted suit, 36R.
After going through racks and racks of suits at different stores, I find only Armani and Prada suits fit me well. Only catch is their pants are often waaay too tight for my liking... Imagine a guy wearing T&A pants, lol.

some suits are really tough to find......armani and prada suits are nice but theres really no point of paying alot of money for those types of suits.....i have one armani suit...and sometimes i dont even want to wear it......but ud be actually suprised if you go to Winners or Designer Depot.....ud find some suits that will suit you well....and you wont be pressured by sales people....u could go through sales rack and even find calvin klien clothing....

give that a try...

i know you said you want a modern fit and not a conservative style but if you want somethign that will last you for a while you should go with a more conservative styled suit. the style might be out before the seams or stitches fall apart. a conservative suit can be nicely fitted too and that shoudl be how a suit should fit.

Right. Those who can afford to be at the leading edge of fashion won't be wearing their suit beyond a year. And despite what people seem to think, trends to change in men's suits.

Yes, a slightly more conservative suit might be a better idea if you are intending to keep it for a long time. Of course, if you care for your suits, even a moore's quality suit can last years and still look good.
