Anyone know how good TD warranty plans are?
I hear these remotes break pretty often...so I'm thinking of adding the 2 year warranty. However since Im in Bc... I imagine I'd have to mail the remote to them before I get a replacement, which isn't too bad. But anyone know the turn around time?

I bought this remote last summer when Zellers had it on for $40. I've found it works great and haven't had any troubles with it at all. I find its great for my parents who are not too great with technology, so they don't have to be constantly flipping video sources and switching.
I don't know how the manufactures warranty works with refurbished remotes, but I found that Logitech has great customer service. I had an older keyboard mouse combo and just called their support line and they tried a couple things to fixed it but that didn't work. So they just sent me a new combo and a better one since they no longer carried the model I had.

The Logitechs are great remotes. I got the 720 from TD a while back and have no complaints.
The only thing about this one is that it does not have a recharger station. I like that about the 720. There are complaints that the recharger isn't secure, which is true. But overall if its on a stable surface there are usually no problems. Better than replacing batteries every few days if you ask me.
But for 45 bucks you can't go wrong. I even bought one for my aunt because she didn't know how to operate her TV and everything else.

I can even control my laptop, xbox 360, a/v switcher, Air Conditioner, fan, space heater.
Almost anything with a remote will work. You can set it up with PS3 but you have to buy a dongle or something

Given the same price of $40, I might go for the refurb 659 at Factory Direct. They put the 659 on sale for $30 every once in a while.
Harmony remotes are a must. There is no need to spend big $$$ on charging ones. How hard is it to replace the batteries 4-5 times a year ??

To me, it does what I want a universal remote to do without spending $300-$400 on the Harmony One. What blew me away was the setup, was soo easy and practical. My buddy had his for over a year and its still running. check out the 171 reviews on the site!

How's the rep been on those FD refurbed Harmonys? I'm wondering if a buck or two more here might be worth it to avoid headaches.
For those wondering about extended warranties I think Logitech might sell them directly.

+1 for the 720. I bought two when they were on clearance at Costco last year for $68.97 or something like that....best purchase evar!!! Love the charging dock!! Before that I had the 520 as well and it's still great, although I found the motion sensing to be somewhat annoying...waste of batteries as it would turn the backlight on whenever it sensed motion around it (like walking past it).
For functionality per dollar, you can't beat the Harmonies baby :)

I would only buy local from FD (so would I for TD for that matter LOL)
I wouldn't buy from neither one and risk eating shipping if something goes wrong.

I have had 5 harmony remotes and not one has broken down. I have also bought refurbished ones before.
My wife would die if she didn't have her 520, it is THAT good. In fact I like the 520 better than my 880.

I ~might~ have recharged the batteries 4-5 times in the last year for both my Harmony's combined and there's many a morning i'm sure the buttons have been pressed the majority of the night since I find it under my arm or back when I wake up! I'm definitely getting one for dad for xmas to replace the wallymart universal remote... if I get one more call that starts with "this damn remote doesn't work again"

520 is the best for any newbie to get into Harmonies. It's simple and intuitive.
The 659 has a PICTURE and a SOUND tab that basically switches the remote to control the TV only (or the sound only). In turn, if you're a tweaker, you're gonna spend 3 times as long to program it to your exact liking.

I use <$5 rechargeable 4-pk AAAs from CTY computer store. They last 3 months easy. Charge them up overnight and it's good to go again. When charging, I do use some alkaline lying around. I guess I do change it more than 5 times a year considering I replace the alkaline the next day LOL.

Haha...I know what you mean but I'm wondering if Dell is ever going to put an entry model out for $50 again and the TD ones do have the mfg warranty for three months.

Refurb should work 90+% of the time BUT ordering from these dudes...if something happens that would really suck if you have to ship it back and eating the shipping for such a low $$ item...plus the time wasted.
I am not too worry about the function/integrity of a refurb remote down the road, you do need to make sure it does work in the first place!
Pounce on the next Dell Harmony offering if you can wait...or go to your local computer store (the ones that gladly take back defective item LOL)...the 520 is around $70 brand new.

with the extended warranty, it would make the remote almost $70, you could probably wait for a dell deal or something to come along for a brand new one and get warranty from Logitech, they are good with sending replacements and such...

I've had this remote for the past year and it has saved me so much headache from the wifey at home asking which remote controls what  Batteries I seem to only need to change my Eneloops every 3-4 months and the backlight issue can be annoying and I'm sure battery life would be improved if not for this.
For the price of an extended warranty, wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to just buy an extra one as a back up? I'm looking for another one for backup or a better model and keep my existing one for back up. Just a head ups, my remote has been dropped many times and takes quite a beating from my family and still works great.
