I'd jump at that for sure if EB didn't already have their ps3 trade promotion.

Without something bundled in, I'd say it's warm at best. the 250GB version will be hitting shelves soon for $350, so expect to see some deals on the $299 slim, and especially the last of the 80 GB line.

My crystal ball says 80 GB unit + 1 hot (or 2 so-so) games for $249 between now and XMAS. ;)

Cold deal. I would pay the extra $30 for the larger hard drive and slim design. PM is not possible without an ad of the deal.

Not really a good deal, unless they put it for $199.99. I might as well pay $30 more for a brand new slim PS3 which probably save 30% energy.

Thinking of selling my "fat" PS3 to my nephew and picking up the slim to hide in a closet cabinet...don't need the backward PS2, card reader or linux OS anyway.

Anyone else sold their fat for the slim and can share their thoughts on the newer PS3?

old one is better for numerous reasons. glad i got my 60GB when i did because they're impossible to find now. i'm too lazy to look up any of the reviews but numerous sources say the new blu ray drive is slower to load then the old one (which is already ridiculous for games and why i prefer to game on my 360)

Sorry to hack this thread, but does anyone know if Zellers carries the older PS3's? I have some gift cards that I got with air miles and am looking to get a PS3 with it.

Ummm OK what are the numerous reasons? You only state that it's slower to load, but I researched that and couldn't find any substantial proof.

I used to game on the 360, but after having two failed consoles that was enough for me to go for a Sony and after having it for over a year there has not been one problem with it...

Yeah, if you're using PS3s for linux boxes, it's also better to buy the 80G for $270 rather than the 160G bundle for $400. You're going to want to replace the hard drive with a nice SSD, so your swap partition/virtual memory is as fast as possible. Even with the ps3vram kernel, 256M (+256M) just doesn't give you a whole lot of elbow room.

Thanks OP.

I agree $199.99+$30=$229.99 for a brand new slim PS3 is hot, but where do you get it?

Yes, I changed my Japanese 60 PS3 for the 120G slim. When I unboxed the new slim ps3 I was not sure anymore if I wanted to sell my old one. Seriously, the old PS3 was the nicer unit in my closet, the XBox 360 was hidden insine(only because it's white) and the ps3 on top of hit more visible. The new one is made only of plastic, the eject/power button are not toutch button anymore but real push button. I lost 2 usb port (i had 4) and all the card reader. IMHO, The new slim unit has really no style and look like a bargain ps3. Like if it was a cheaper model made for poor people.

To end the story, I kept the slim and sold he old one, only because i really wanted to be able to read DVD and my japaneese ps3 was zoned in the wrong zone. I now have a dualshock that i didn't have and the power consumption is less important

I just got a slim today and first thing I noticed is that it's slower to load. I also can't register it online due to an invalid serial number

Thanks, review explains it all-looks like they only found fault in a slower load time for bluray...no big deal

I have the original 60GB model and just recently picked up the slim version using the trade promotion from EB. I keep the 60GB downstairs and is the primary games and playback machine. I put the slim upstairs in the bedroom mostly for blu-ray. I love my 60GB but it does get pretty loud while watching a movie. The slim is remarkably quiet and perfect for what I want it to do.

I just bought the 120GB Slim PS3 from Staples.ca with a $20 coupon code (found in the RFD Staples coupon thread) for $300 - $20 = $280+tax. It was delivered to my front door. That's only $10 more and I got home delivery too!

I just picked one 1 up from Blockbuster in Laval (blvd Concorde in Duvernay)

It was the only one of 4 locations in Laval that had any.

They still have 1 left

$269.99 80GB

Now the hunt for a TV to plug this into!!!

Any leads on a 46" LCD?

I have no idea what you did to your ps3 slim(did you oven it?)
what you said doesnt make any logical sense, the slim is suppose to produce atleast 20% less heat and consumes 33% less power than the original.
Not to mention they also swap the 90mm gpu to newer and smaller ones(which also produce less heat)
Therefore if overheat problem should happen, it will be happening to the original ones.
Talk about the design, I think its base on opinion. For my, I rather have something that takes less room than another desktop like gaming console sitting on my desk.
