Don't you mean go to Sears to PM against Lowes lower price? Why would anyone go to the place that already has a lower price and ask to PM for a higher price and expect a further discount? Huh

For major appliances (including sewing and vacuums) we'll beat the difference by 10% on any competitor's advertised price on identical major appliances within 30 days of purchase."

No problem tugzy. I have made more than my share of typo errors.
The important thing is that it looks like a pretty good deal, so thanks for the heads up.

Is the Lowes deal in a recent flyer or something? I can't seem to find a Lowes flyer in my recent stash of weekly junk mail received in my mail box.

At the risk of having this post deleted for being off topic:o

We purchased this set (they are made in Mexico) and returned them (ate the 15% restocking fee) after 9 months. During the 9 months it seemed that either the washer or the dryer were out of action waiting for replacement parts for most of the time.

I'd stay away, but that's just one person's experience.

Correct me if I'm wrong; but doesn't the Lowe's price shown already reflect the $500 off instead of a mail in rebate?

Also, more feedback on this unit is greatly appreciated.

again, off topic.

I think Appliances are like cars. IMO, domestic brands are poor quality (GM, Ford, Chrysler) and the quality stuff comes from Japan (Toyota, Honda, Nissan).

I feel the same applies when it comes to quality. Now, your personal policy on protectionism will dictate.

Japan : Samsung, LG
Domestic : Whirlpool, Maytag, Frigidaire

I recently did a lot of research for a new set of HE washer/dryers... Ended up buying the Samsung 337/339 combo, based on reliability reviews all over the web.

Samsung and LG are Korean, not Japanese

I just called Lowe's, and yes, their price INCLUDES the whirlpool discount. The difference is that they take it at register, saving you the additional tax on the extra $500.

So total cost at Lowe's is $1996 + $75 delivery + GST/PST = $2340 all in.

none of the brand you list out belong to japanese, and i dont if japanese still lead many consumer electronics? just look at those flat panel, panasonic or sharp have to make initial investment to forge joint venture with Taiwan / Korea companies first, in order to secure shipment and purely use their brand name to make profit, as they already lose out the technical superior. Look at car, Nissan is like an underdog, and 40% owned by Renault

Samsung and LG use the direct drive system which better in terms of performance but costly if it does break down.

My parents and i had to make a long and hard decision between LG and whirlpool. In the end, we chose the whirlpool and it's been great.

So better off to take the Lowes flyer Ad, go to Sears with a pricematch and then use the Whirlpool discount...that would put you $700 ahead.

Oh and BTW...the 9550 Duet's are made in the USA according to Sears.

Old models were made in Mexico and even older than that Germany...

Im sure the bugs have been worked out on this newer model in response to the problems the older ones have had.

Yes, you're right. I was looking at the Canadian website washer page quickly, and the description of the 9550 was not including steam.

I bought the non steam ones (the 9450s) in silver for $1800 pre $500 Whirlpool rebate at Sears.
It was a price match on The Brick. This past weekends flyer.
The sales person told me I could have the steam ones (the 9550s) for $2000 pre $500 rebate, but I passed.
I also got the 5 year service plan for $275 to cover both units instead of the $500 it was supposed to be. Also got free delivery and no admin fee for 1 year deferred payments.

Good deal all round.

We paid about $1650 all in for our matching 9200 series and are very happy with them. Washer is incredibly quiet!

This in an online code. They won't honour it in store.

We bought Whirlpool Duet HT (9400 series) washer and dryer with matching pedestals on the weekend from Sears for $1898 all in. Plus got 3x Sears points. Hopefully we got a good deal. Still have to decide if we want the warranty or not.

How did you get the service plan for both units for only $275?

Did your $1800 include the pedestals?

did anyone have any luck pm'ing the 9550 series at Sears with the additional 10% difference? They gave me the $1996, same price as Lowes. Told me it was below their cost price. Still a good price when the $500 rebates comes in but I wouldn't be doing RFD justice.

Check at Tasco's. I bought a similar, but slightly smaller pair (4 cu foot washer and 7 cubic foot dryer) for $1598. I believe they will also price match, their delivery charges are less, as is their extended warranty (bought only for the washer). The guys who came to install were great and they took away my old set when I tipped them $20 cash each.

Have had them for over a year now. Happier than expected with both! I don't think we've ever used anything but "normal" and "heavy duty" cycles. Maybe the very occasional "gentle". Glad to see we didn't need to waste money on steam or fancy cycles we'd never use.

Although I'm never going to try to move that washer myself again. Heavy!
