Saw this ad on the newspaper today, pretty good if you're purchasing a Sigma lens

Seems like a bit of a ripoff if you ask me!

If you have a lens that retails for $300, you could just (for arguments sake) sell it for $100 no problem. That's $25 more than they are offering you!

I think its additional credit on top of the trade in value that you get instore

You need to read the promotional material more carefully. The lens you trade in does not need to be of any specified value and specifically, does not even need to be working.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I'd just buy a cheapie lens at a flea market or at the local Goodwill.

Surely you don't get a competitive trade-in value though?

Also, I didn't read the whole thing but I heard you can trade in a non-working lens. I don't know how much broken lenses are worth, but that might be beneficial...

Ahh... I misread. It's the value of the lens you are buying! :)

Hmmm... I was looking for a new lens and $150 off is VERY tempting!

Anyone know a place is downtown Toronto to get a CHEAP lens? Or maybe some stores will just give you that discount anyways...?

You could go to a pawn shop, a Goodwill or Salvation Army, or the Henry's outlet on Queen. The latter has a bunch of junk but I think they pretty much want $50+ for everything in there. If there was a Sigma out there I wanted, I'd first check out Goodwill/Salvation Army, flea markets, and garage sales. Or put out an ad on Craigslist for the absolute cheapest lens possible. There's got to be something out there you can get for $5.

Damn, I recently purchased a new Sigma off Henry's eBay page. Don't think that would've worked anyways.

Cool, I've got an old 50mm 1.8 MF collecting dust at home...Now to figure out what lens I could use it towards.
