I'm just starting to snowboard and need to pick up a pair of goggles. I don't need anything fancy (you clearly haven't seen me snowboard if you think otherwise) and was going to get the Bolle's that are going on sale at Costco.
They come with a red-ish or a yellow-ish tinted lens. What colour should I get?

I've used yellow and red tinted lenses, and I find that yellow is more versatile for different light conditions. Sometimes at night, I was having a bit of trouble with depth perception with my red goggles.
But then again, I haven't boarded in years, so technology might be a bit better these days

the orange/amber is best for all around.

My suggestion is get a decent pair at least...if you buy a cheap pair, you'll only end up replacing it this year or next. Keep in mind you might suck at snow boarding now, but you will get better. Cheap goggles let more air in and tend to fog up / freeze over more easily. Also comfort is a big factor.
The Toronto ski/snowboard show starts today and runs till sunday so it might be worth checking out if you need other gear as well.

You only really need 1 pair of goggles but if you're going to get two, get one for daylight one for nighttime.
The clearer the lens the easier you'll be able to see (persimmon/lighter colors for nighttime)
The darker/more reflective the lens, the more light it will block out but it'll be harder to use at night (chrome).
Bolle is decent but a better pair of goggles will last you a long time.
AND make sure it fits! Anti-fog/vents help for defogging too.

for goggles, my best advice is not to cheap out
get a decent pair of goggles with a good lense
for an all round (day/night) lense, i would go with an orange/amber (check out oakley's persimmon)
of course, every lense will have its preferred times
i have 4 sets of goggles
H.I.Yellow for night, black iridium for very sunny days, fire iridium for sunny days, and persimmon for overcast days (or if i don't want to switch part way)
all 4 pairs of goggles i own are oakley, so you can refer to their site for the lense colours...
i understand i'm a bit extreme, but the lense makes a world of a difference when you're on the mountain going high speeds
just keep in mind, if your lense fogs, it means you can't see and thats a potential disaster. you're not only risking your own safety, but the safety of others as well

I run either pink or blue for night boarding. Bronze for overcast and fire for sun. Getting a frame with interchangable lens is a good idea

I agree with the posts above. Do NOT cheap out!
I went cheap on my first pair. I bought a pair of Gordini goggles for $25, and they were OK, but when I started to go faster, they let all the wind in and my eye sockets would freeze.
Now I use a pair of Oakley's that I got at the Oakley outlet store for $60, and they're way better.
Don't waste your money the first time -- just get a good pair and enjoy them

i got the bolle from costco last year... i think it's $33?? Although, i did buy it when they had an extra rebate that may have brought it down to $30.
I didn't end up using it last year cause i didn't ski. They aren't bad. they're comfortable.

the ski and snowboard show is currently running,
people have said that anon's are 2 pairs for $100, or $59 for a single pair
this is a good deal for a decent brand of goggles

There are even cheaper at the show if you're looking. I believe I saw some Anon Figments for $50, some Realms for $40 somewhere. Lot of half priced stuff.

bought a pair of figments last year. Not impressed at all, fogs up easily and it doesn't fit my face well. Oh well probably just not for me. My friends figments 'broke' (well the side anon logo fell off after a few runs). burton quality not so much
