Good books?

Other than Petersons Understanding Exposure, are there any other good books to pick up to learn?

There are a lot of dime-a-dozen technical books out there that cover the basics (re-hashed in an endless variety of ways). Some are better than others, but these books are ultimately more about cameras than they are about photography.

I personally find it more helpful to read books that deal with the picture-taking process, stretching your limits, composition, balance, self-criticism, how to "see", the whole psychology of it.

The Freeman Patterson books are good for that -- Photography and the Art of Seeing, Photographing the World Around You, etc. They are inexpensive in paperback and can often be found in used book-stores.

Another book I like is Michael Freeman's The Photographer's Eye. Freeman is a talented photographer and provides lots of examples.
