Does anyone have any prenatal class recommendations in the Markham, Richmond Hill and Scarborough area?

I've contacted a couple of places (hospitals and the city) already and their next session does not start till January and by the time the classes are done, it will be really close to my due date.

Has anyone used New Life Prenatal Childbirth Education Classes (http://www.newlifeprenatal.org/)? I can't seem to find any reviews on them.

TIA!

If you don't mind travelling as far as Brampton, we used http://birthexperience.com/ and were very happy with the classes. They have sessions starting every few weeks or so. We chose the session that went a full weekend (vs. 4 weeks). The session on c-sections was particularly useful as it fully prepared us on what to expect when it was actually necessary for our first baby.

I attend Lydia Ling's class.
http://www.lydialing.com/

Her next class starts in November.
You can check out the details on the website.
But by the time you finish all 7 classes, maybe it's going to be really close or even pass your due date.

A lot of people like her classes but many others do not.
I find her classes very informative. She prepares her students very well for many possible situations that might happen in the labor room and after you are discharged from the hospital. She is a strong supporter of breastfeeding as well.

If you like to be well-informed, plan to breast feed, and would like recommendations of good products out in the market for pre & post natal care for you and the baby, you will like her classes.

We learned more through our Doula for the first baby than the prenatal classes (waste of time at Woman's College) and for the second baby our midwives were amazing....and yes, this is with reference to what you learn in prenatal classes....both the doula and midwife spend hours in advance of the babies discussing everything...

We went to Lydia's class as well. Please be aware though that it's only in Cantonese. She also promotes products, which some people don't like, but I didn't mind. Never any pressure to buy or anything like that. But very thorough and spends alot of time on the breast feeding aspect which other classes might not spend as much time on. She is a lactation consultant.

Oh right. I forgot to mention one very important point, it's only in Cantonese. Silly me. Sorry about that.

I find her products promotion actually helpful (not that I need to buy all of them) because it saves me money and time and energy to do my own research.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think you need to live in that region to be eligible to attend their classes. If you live in York region, you can only attend prenatal classes within York region. If you try to apply for other regions, they'll refer you back to your own region... At least this is how the nurse explains to me when I call to inquire about prenatal classes offer by the community.

I tried to call York Region Health Connection. All parental classes for this year are already full. I was told to call back on December for classes after the new year.

We did a full weekend of classes with Birth Experience as well. The classes were fun, and most importantly, memorable. It was very hands-on and she focussed more on the "coach" than on the mother which I found very useful. It was about time someone reminded my husband that his role was just as important, if not more important, as mine.

We drove 1/2 an hour to get there, but totally worth it.
