As in my previous thread http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/recomendations-canon-digital-camera-please-800208/
I am looking for a new camera. Have been searching and have found the following which seem appealing (from Canon):
PowerShot G10
PowerShot SX10 IS
PowerShot SX1 IS
OR
**PowerShot A2000 IS
**PowerShot S90
*PowerShot SX120 IS
*PowerShot SX110 IS
PowerShot SD1200 IS
PowerShot SD780 IS
PowerShot SD940 IS
PowerShot SD960 IS
(** seems great for the price, *seems good)
-------------------------------------------------------
Wanted to get opinions on which one is better to get from the list or any other one.
Trying to get one to use for specific occasions (concerts, events, etc).
I currently own a Canon PowerShot SD300 Digital ELPH 4Mp. If you read that thread can explain what the problem was with the camera during a concert. (Poor picture quality when near the stage etc)
Can spend up to 400$, but would prefer to spend less if I can get a good camera for less than that

I had the S80 and loved it. The S90 looked even better :)
Also, some of the cameras are completely different.
The S90 has ~4x zoom while the SX120 has 10x... "ultra zoom" camera.
Not sure what's best for lower light situation though, sorry...

Thank you for replying and the input :)
I don't know much about camera's but those are the ones that seemed good based on the features they have.

I have the sx110 as my point and shoot camera, I am very pleased with the image quality and the 10x zoom is insane!
It is a larger camera, but it doesn't bother me personally.

Only one I'd consider from Canon is the SD940.
Its nice, small, wide angle.
Comparable models include:
Panasonic ZR1
Fuji F200exr
The ZR1 is a really nice camera.

Thank you :), the zoom does seem like a wonderful feature on that one.

I had the S5 IS w/ 12x optical zoom and LOVED it. If you're not really one to shoot telephoto though, it's sorta pointless.
Once again - it's all how you plan to use the camera :) I love Canon though and generally ya those like like their better P&S :)
I would also consider going in store and try them out - focusing quickly, how it feels in your hand... types of batteries it takes, etc.
My S5 took AA and I LOVED it because I could replace them just about anywhere. Others, it seems proprietary batteries are more popular.

Go to Steves Digicam site and do your research:
http://www.steves-digicams.com/best-cameras.html
Lots of advice there as well as hands-on reviews.

I actually own two Canon Cameras, one is an older one which uses film and the Digital one . That's why am looking into the same brand lol
I find that my current one is pretty good, but just want to buy one for specific occasions and not risk getting "dark/unclear" pictures because of the lighting etc. So the new one won't be used as often

I think the Fuji (forget exact line name) are generally considered best in lowlight conditions

You should check out www.dpreview.com if you're surfing the net for research.
You can compare photos taken from each camera from that site and even post questions to owners who have the cameras.

I hope you all realize the OP has been provided with a list of cameras, that may not be definitive, but is a solid list for low light concert photography. Also a list of key reference sites.
It's all in the original thread:
http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/recomendations-canon-digital-camera-please-800208/#post9582916
Your answer may lie in this thread.
http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/recommendations-digital-camera-not-dslr-800803/
Also, scroll back thru the forum message list for the past 8 weeks or so. There are several threads discussing low light photography with a P&S type camera - there have been several new models released recently that address the low light challenge. Unfortunately they all have a price tag near $400-500 and there-in lies the reason you're not getting much of a response here.... you've boxed yourself in with your budget. Below a certain price point all you get is a basic camera.
There are also a lot of people asking a similar question in this forum:
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=1002
You may want to check these sites for camera reviews:
http://www.steves-digicams.com/
http://www.dcresource.com/
http://www.imaging-resource.com/
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/
Or compare low light images on this next site. At the pop-up select "Continue" to go to the correct European site - the US and UK sites do not have the same test formats.

You should see the new Sony WX1 vs Panasonic LX3 - Poor Lighting test. Look at the "Barbie -Detail w/o Flash" shots as well.
Some P&S cameras getting attention for their low light abilities.
Canon G11
Canon S90
Fuji F70 EXR
Fuji F200 EXR
Panasonic LX3
Sony WX1
Sony TX1
To which I'll add the Sony HX1 superzoom which uses a Sony "Exmor" sensor similar to the other two.
Also the Canon SX200 IS should be looked at.
First test shots for the G11 were posted today on Imaging Resource.
Only the S90 on this threads list appeals to me. My daughter has the SD780IS and I find it is OK but definitely not something for low light though its' 720p video mode might work. I like the still images from my 5 year old 5MP Panasonic FZ20 better. I wouldn't expect the more advanced Canon SD models to be a whole lot better.

PowerShot G10***
PowerShot SX10 IS****
PowerShot SX1 IS---- expensive though

No camera is perfect... so don't set yourself up with that notion. Just get something.

but i thought sony made the best cameras... ;)
list your needs and look for the camera that satisfies your needs the most ie lightweight, long zoom, wider angle, etc) then from there you figure out your budget and then from there take the remaining contenders and read up the reviews as others said like dpreview or stevesdigicams.
personally i like fuji for lowlight and panasonic for features. saying this i still have my canon SD700 lol.
