I'm always curious about thie psychological phenomenon and whether it holds true in real life. I'm curious as to how much childhood observation of parental behavior affects their own decisions later in life.

Have you guys ever noticed that the daughter copies her mother's treatment of her husband?

eg. mother treats husband well --> daughter treats boyfriend well

vs. mother leaves husband to pursue career while daughter is still in early grade school --> daughter finds that to be normal and treats her boyfriend or husband the same way when he has difficult times

I wonder to what degree this is modifiable by choice, to counter the degree to which the brain develops according to how the daughter perceives what is "normal" for her mother

All of the women that I know have made very different family and career choices in life when compared to their mothers. I have one sister in law that decided to be a classic housewife like her mother, but every female friend, sister, cousin and my own wife all went a lot further with careers or traveling and either put off kids or had them much earlier than their mothers.

It's all anecdotal though.
