Even free, ZA is crap software. Plus, it accesses the HDD several times every second. Free Comodo is much better.

Comodo Internet Security 3.12.111745.560FREE 100% 10+ Excellent – 100%

ZoneAlarm Pro 8.0.059.000 72% 9 Good Not recommended

Interesting! Even if it's free, they want my credit card number! Are they going to charge $0 on it? Anyway, it makes me suspicious.

Yes it does go through the regular purchase process but they will not charge your credit card.

Interesting I have never heard of Comodo before, or about that test page you linked to. Not sure how trusted those tests are. There are just way too many tests on the internet and they are all over the place. Some recommend one product and shows everything else is being crap other tests are show the exact opposite.

I've been using ESET for a while now and never had any problems or issues with it and never got any viruses or anything like that on my PC even though that test page you linked show ESET as one of the crappiest software to use. :)

I suspect they will charge it in a year, since only first year is free

I am not sure about that. I think even though they have your CC info you still have to purchase the update in a year they can not just go ahead and charge your card.

You can be sure about that:
Your order includes ZoneAlarm automatic renewal, to keep you protected from the latest online security threats.

Spectral, that site is only reviewing the firewall component of the software. It is the most comprehensive site for firewalls, and is updated regularly. ESET is among the best anti-virus software, but their firewall is weak. I use Comodo as well. Much better than ZoneAlarm, and free.

That is total crap! Back in the day they were pretty good but now they have hit the lowest levels of grovelling for money by doing promos like this. They definitely won't be getting my business!!!

You can actually click on that, where there is an option to not have automatic renewal. And, forgetting to do that, you can go into your profile and stop the automatical renewal... and also delete your credit card info.

So, basically, you can get it free with no strings.

I was interested in the zone alarm till i found out that you have to give your credit card.
Huh?

I didn't have to supply anthing but name and e-mail address in order to get the License Key. Then I simply downloaded and installed the new ZAPro version, rebooted and applied the key.

It was a simple, painless process. ZAPro detected a previous (maintenance expired) version on my system, asked me if I wanted to do a new install or update and then did its thing.

I don't understand what credit cards have to do with anything. If you want anonymity, just use a fake name and throw-away e-mail address.

I agree, I have been using Comodo for years and it is much better than ZA, and Comodo is absolutely free. When I migrated to 64bit, I looked and ZA did not even support the 64bit environment so that was when I migrated to Comodo. I think ZA 64bit support is still only in their beta stage, but correct me if I am wrong
