Need a pediatrician

We have moved from Toronto to Markham (Boxgrove area - 9th line & 14th ave). NOw we need a pediatrician for our son who is 3+ years old. Which one do you guys recommend? And what is the procedure to register with a pediatrician (we never had a pediatrician before :o)?

If the child is healthy there really is no need to have a pediatrician do well baby care. Best to find a good family doctor that can take care of the entire family.

Select the province you are searching, the specialty you are looking for (in this case paediatrician), your home postal code and the search radius you like. It will show you all the paediatricians within the area and their ratings. I find this quite useful.

However I do agree with the above comment that if you have a good family doctor and he/she is willing to look after you son as well, it's best. This is what I am doing as well.

Many are not taking on new patients and some will need a referral.

Best thing to do is call - there's one in Unionville that purges every August - so she only accepts new patients (if there is space) in August - after older children are released from her load.

You are near MS Hospital - so lots of good doctors around to choose from.

Finding a pediatrician can be a real pain. There seems to be some "rules" in place for many of them. Most don't accept new patients, especially non-newborns, and for the ones that do,

- The baby must be a few days old.
- If it's not your first kid and your first kid has a pediatrician, you must take the newborn to the same pediatrician.
- The kid must not have seen another doctor.
