I went to Baby R Us the other day and saw 4 different brands of nursing pads. I wonder which one I should buy because they come in a box of 40 - 60. I don't want to waste a whole box if I randomly pick one and find it not good. I think there are Johnson & Johnson, Madela, Lansinoh, and another unfamiliar brand name. I know Nestle makes them too.

Thanks!

just like diapers...it will depend on the shape it's going to put on...
wifey went with J& J...but then we switched to Kushies washable ones cause she was going thru them faster than we thought...

The trouble is, from the pictures on the packaging boxes, they all look quite the same to me!! How many is used per day in general? Is washable ones more comfortable to use or your wife is just using them because it's more economical?

Thanks.

I preferred Lansinoh because it didn't have any weird shape to it, just gently curved adn very absorbant. HATED J&J because it's got this weird point on the end. I still have a whole box (if anyone wants it, let me know). I found the cheapest price for the Lansinoh was at Walmart. I think I went through about 3 sets a day. You have to make sure you change them if they get wet because it breeds yeast infections.

Thanks for your suggestion!
I find these breast pads so "big" and relatively "thick". They add like 1 full cup size to my bra! Do you know if there are some smaller ones out in the market that doesn't take up so much space?

+1 for the Lansinoh. I found them thinner and more absorbant plus they are individually wrapped which you can easier carry them with you.

This sounds weird, but my friend used regular thin maxi pads. She just cut them to fit her size. As for the thickness, don't worry about adding a full size because you will generally be a bit larger than normal when you're BFing anyway.

Hum.. that IS weird... and it's not cheap either.... your friend must loves doing craft to be doing this....

The thing is... I am already "big"... I don't want to add another cup size... sigh. Thanks for the info though.

I don't find Lansinoh thick at all. I am a good size bust too, on a small frame, and I love this brand.

The best price is Walmart in the 60 pack, although I find my Walmart tends to run out of stock of this often so when I see it I buy a couple boxes.

At the beginning I used 2-3 sets a day, then I found after a few months I was down to 1 set a day.

At one point I tried Gerber ones in a tall dark blue box (which are a couple dollars cheaper) that had no backing and they always leaked. Terrible!

All disposable breast pads are totally inferior to the ones my friend who had a baby 6 weeks before me - best gift of my shower - lilypadz. I think the website is www.lilypadz.com They are about $30 for one pair, but they are reuseable all the time, they just are washed with some dish soap. You don't even need to wear a bra, they just stick to your skin. You don't have to worry about leaks and can be confident when you go out. Seriously worth every penny. Mine lasted the entire time I leaked, then I bought a new pair for when I stopped breastfeeding. So great. I also don't need any extra padding there and they are not bulky and don't take up extra room in the bra.

The reviews I've read shows that this product can work quite well for some, but where there was complaint, was mostly coming from women who are larger, DD and up.

Sounds like an interesting product anyway!

My wife hates the Exact brand.

J&J and Lansinoh are the best.

I just bought one from Dear Born. I just read the instruction sheet inside. It says it can only last up to 2 months if properly cared for?? But it's $35 + tax for each pair! That cost almost exactly the same as buying disposable! Did yours last longer than 2 months?

Washable. She tried nearly all the washable ones and choose La Leche League.

I believe mine did - you just have to be careful to wash them just with dish soap and let them air dry. But you won't need them the entire time you are breastfeeding (at least I didn't) - just when I was first starting and again stopping. I didn't leak all the time. But trust me, they are worth every penny for just confidence reasons - not having to worry about if your pads are properly placed, bulky pads filling your bra, over-wetting the disposable pads. I really loved them. Because of my large size, I always wore a bra with them (except at night), but never once did they leak.
