If it been going on for a while, have him checked for asthma. Since he is too young for a respiration check, he would be put on a trial of cortisteroids to see if any effect.

use some caugh syrup...check with your ped on the dosage but even though they took off kids 2-6 the dose is the same as before...

I find that vicks on their chest (kids version) and a fan in their room helps the most! I also try to get them to blow their nose before bed, then use the triamenic nasal mist to clean out the mucus and blow their nose again, as well as prop up the head of their mattress.
While new rules say kids 6 and under should refrain from any medicine, if they are truly sick, I love Tylenol Nighttime.
Best wishes!!!

Is your house/ room very dry? A humdifier can help as well, though its not exactly the time of year yet for very dry air and having the furnace running fulltime.

Might be true(humidification levels). Go to the doctor pronto

my 6 year old is going through something similar. He coughs a lot at night when we put him down and he coughts in the morning and sometimes in the night too but during the day he's fine.
I suspect he has post nasal drip, that's when mucus from your sinus drips into your throat and causes irritation when you lie down. I use a salene nose spray twice a day and seems to help a little by clearing out the sinuses but it's not 100%.
Anyway, I'm taking him to the doctor next week to have him checked to make sure it's not something more serious.

Dust the room thoroughly; wash all bed linen, blankets, comforters etc. If he has stuffed animals in the room, remove them. It may be a dust allergy. Good luck

My 17month old has something similar. Before I could get an appointment w/the paediatrician, I called Telehealth and the nurse says to try a cool mist humidifier and 1/2 tspn of pure honey. This worked nicely.
The paediatrician says he has bronchitis and prescribed a puffer with a chamber. Call your doctor.

I find these food help heal/relieve coughing when my daughter has cold/flu and cough:
-Ginger (chopped up some ginger, fried eggs and rice)
-Honey (Honey with warm water, plus some lemon juice to boost the effectiveness)
Do not use cough suppressant. I've been using that last winter for my daughter at night so she can sleep, but apparently, new studies show it's no good to give it to kids under 4 yrs old.
