I like Seattle's Best Coffee.. Aside from really good coffee, they have the best mochas and chai lattes of the franchises.
I used to like second cup too but haven't been to one in ages, the last one I knew of in vancouver closed a while ago..

Yea not many Second Cup in the mainland, except for campus, lots in Richmond :)
I love their Iced Moccaccino, better than Starbucks, less residue at the bottom.
But bang for the buck, Tom Horton's Ice Cap is the winner at least for my taste ;)

Tim Hortons is not good coffee. Just ubiquitous. They've ruined their donuts. But I look forward to the day that Playboy does a Girls of Tim Hortons spread (but not the ones who've been dipping into the inventory).
I like Second Cup and Country Style. Timothy's is okay too.
Starbucks has to learn not to burn their beans. Coffee Time is a nightmare.

i voted for second cup--they are not great, but better than the rest of the list.
tim horton's is decent coffee--medium roast, tons of caffeine, and a unique flavour (most swear they must put crack in it, it's so addictive) that is very palatable to most canadians. starbucks is hit or miss on some of their blends, although i don't have as much problem with their dark roasts as some have mentioned. timothy's is actually very good, since they often brew kenyan AA, but they generally aren't too daring and brew a lot of flavoured coffees, not varietals. country style is generally pretty bland coffee--their freshness is the only redeeming quality. i agree that coffee time is horrible--not much better than a coffee truck, and in some cases, worse.
second cup makes an effort to cycle its selection, always has a variety of roasts brewed, and their coffees have good flavour.
but by far the best is the little coffeehouse in my hometown: it brews a fantastic selection, including organic coffees, and i've never had a bad cup in over 2 years.

I agree with wiggy's quote....
Crappy Tim's is only sucessfull cause they flood the market with there stores ( 4 stores & 1 mini hortons in this town). Elsewise there coffee is crappy & so is most of there other products which I also agree many years ago it was of great quality.
If me & a friend get a chance we hit the Williams in wasaga beach .. great quality dark roast arabic bean coffee. Usualy get quite the cafine buzz if ya drink it on a empty stomac. :) There products offered as well are of good quality as well.
Waiting for Krispy Kreme's to open up more stores so I can try there coffee with there kick a$$ donuts. :)

I don't drink much coffee. However, following the recommendations of my co-workers, I have been surprisingly impressed by the coffee at the internet cafes inside some London Drugs. Definately among the best regular coffee I have ever had.

Freshness of the grind affects taste as much as the choice of beans/blend.
I prefer coffee at places that grind the beans fresh.

not sure how many of you have van houtte coffee in your workplace... but being a coffee lover like myself...
i'd vouch for VAN HOUTTE over timmys or any of the others...
i've learned A LOT about coffee over the years and there's a ton of factors that go into the 'right' cup of coffee... starbucks and second cup use dark roasts which really have no flavour whatsoever... when i drink my coffee i like to 'taste' it... savour it...
you should try it... if it's not at your workplace i know sobeys carries it (in my area anyways) and maybe longo's i think...

I never buy coffee at any of the fancy coffee places, because I refuse to pay $2 or $3+ for a coffee, it just isn't worth it to me. I drink Tim Hortons sometimes and its ok, but even that is getting expensive for a cup of coffee. Its just hot water run over some ground up beans. The markup on a cup of coffee must be several hundred percent.

Pilmania: Cause I could only think of so many places *LOL* :P
hellfire: who's the hottie in ur avitar ?? :cheesygri
bionicbadger: To awnser your question ... Crappy Tim's might pay 5 to 20 cents to make a cup of coffee (w/labour included). my friend figures it's roughly like a 800 to 1000% increase from initial costs. The thing that is killer is that when ya buy coffee bean's there is no tax on them, but as soon as ya boil water & pour it over the beans the results are taxable as he exsplained to me 1 day.
I'm shure if a big coffee company came in & started to monopolize the market like Crappy tim's now has tim's would get less business then ... but i mean as I said most places have multiple crappy's in them so it a convinience thing to grab a crappy tim's than another brands coffee.

I Agree with you on that... they roast their beans too much... ugh... all u're drinking then is resin mostly and less of the actualy 'coffee' flavour because it's all burnt out in the roasting process... grrrrr

Perhaps you are just getting a dark roast, like an italian roast or something.. The beans are practically charcoal in some of the (proper) italian roasts!
Interesting fact: The darker the roast, the less caffeine it has! So sort of counter-intuitively, the "mild" roasts actually have the most caffeine.. Hence they are usually called the "breakfast" blends ;) gets you goin!

The best cup depends on location. Consistently I've found Second Cup better - Mocha Redeye! :cheesygri
Timmies is usually good, but sometimes you get a really bad one
Starbuck is ok, but getting too expensive
Williams, worst coffee I've had at a couple different places. I think they need to train their people better or have fewer that make the coffee.

Starbucks doesn't really have any choice when it comes to their reg. coffee, sometimes they will ask you light or dark, but they are both burnt pretty bad. Second Cup is much much better with their roasting process, and even tell you what roast the coffee is. I prefer a number 3 (Med) roast usually.
And yes, I did know the darker the roast, the less caffeine you get, which is why I usually got for the lighter roast coffees :)

I don't see Timothy's up there. Is it just a GTA chain?
For me, it's
1 - Timothy's
2 - Second Cup
3 - Williams (only had it a few times, but they didn't screw up my orders)
4 - Starbucks (I agree with the burnt taste comment)
5 - Tim Horton's (Better than Gas Station coffee and you can find them anywhere)

#1-Second Cup $$ -nice variety :)
timmothy's $$ close second to :arrowu:
williams $$ convenient since its in my school
mcdonalds -decent and well priced, but i preferr to put my own cream and sugar in
7-11, always fresh at most locations, there some variety + the offer tonnes of different flavoured cream(french vanilla, english toffee, irish cream, etc.), tiny hard marshmellows, cinnimon, choco, skim milk,1%,2%,4%milk, 10%,18% cream, you name it they got it. huge sizes, good prices.
starbucks $$ -agreed it taste burn, and some places are snobby, confusing to order
tim hortons -overrated but better than :arrowd:
coffee time-crap
havent had country style so no comment...
$$ coffee shops are too expensive for me since i go through maybe 4-6 cups a day. mcdonalds are everywhere and coffee is good most of the time.
ppl like tim hortons coffee cause the 18% cream and because its "cool" to drink coffee... and because tim hortons does everything else well food/soup/sandwhich-wise... donuts are blehhhh and the steaped tea is crap.
coffee time sucks, multiple times at different locations the cream was bad. and there was coffee grinds in my coffee! i hate it when that happens...
7-11, has some okay coffee, lots of variety, and I was actually surprised to see them pour out old coffee on multiple occasions, even when the pot was full.

Second Cup and Timothys are pretty good as you can generally take a random blend and it'll still be okay. Starbucks - if that particular store happens to be brewing a favourite blend then it beats everyone else but because they have like 30 different blends you don't really know until you walk into the place. As for the idea that their coffee is burnt, Italian and French roasts are among the best selling blends Starbucks has and even Costco carries it. Coffee Time is pretty meh, Country Style is awful and Tim Hortons is pretty mild and boring. Tim Hortons is certainly reliable but isn't for the palate of a coffee enthusiast or anyone who can taste the difference between Latin American beans and African beans.
And like a previous poster said, milder blends have more caffeine than bolder blends but seriously, the difference is fractional.
Anessa

Coffeetime and Country Style both suck big time. I'd rather Timmys it if I was going for a quickie caffeine fix.
