Please join PETA and our "turkey" mascot to hand out free Tofurky roasts in downtown Toronto on Wednesday as part of our Ontario tour to promote a vegetarian Thanksgiving. Help us reach people's hearts through their stomachs by urging consumers to stay true to the holiday spirit this Thanksgiving and give turkeys something to be thankful for.
More than 300 million turkeys are killed in the U.S. and Canada every year—including 40 million for Thanksgiving alone. Turkeys in nature are known to be protective and loving parents as well as fast runners who are able to use reason to outwit their pursuers. But most turkeys killed for food are crammed into windowless warehouses, where disease, smothering, and heart attacks are common. Turkeys are drugged and bred to grow so large so quickly that their legs are often unable to withstand the weight of their massive upper bodies. Countless birds slowly starve to death within inches of food after they become crippled and are unable to move.
What: Tofurky giveaway
When: Wednesday, October 7, 12 noon – 1 p.m.
Where: Nathan Phillips Square, Intersection of Queen Street and Bay Street, Toronto

For some reason Tofurkey slices are *way* better than the Tofurkey roasts, which is how they made their name.

They're on the street at bay and queen. Tried to get one but they aren't giving them out yet. Gotta wait for noon... Apparently 11:59 is too early. They don't look like they have too many. Just look for the turkey costume

Unfortunately, we didn't see this beforehand. Got there walking from the other end off Dundas, and wandered through the market. Finally asked some guy with a booth and he inquires if I might want to check out the guy in the turkey costume! Didn't even see him...
And of course, at 12:30 they were all gone. Darnit. Was really looking forward to saving the $20-...
She says they were gone in like 10 minutes; and that they really didn't have very many. They shoulda emphasized the limited quantity part.
