I use to never see that when i was a kid, where your child attends a birthday party and she walks home with a gift bag. Is this the new trend? or only rich parents do this?

What goes into a gift bag? Is there like a rule of how much you should spend on a gift bag?

I'm with the OP, I never came home with a loot bag when I was a kid...

I'm 30, and every party I've been to both as a child and a parent has had loot bags.

Generally I spend $2-5 on what goes inside of them for my daughter's birthdays. I spend more on the items if the overall cost of the party is less. I usually put things like stickers, tattoos, bracelets, mini candy bars, bubbles, hair elastics/clips. The dollar store is great for stuffing loot bags, as well as the $1.50 isle in Michaels where you can get cheap items that can be broken up into multiple items. ie. One pack of 6 notepads.

We are tired of the junk that goes into loot bags so we are doing $5.00 gift cards for DQ this year.

When my DD was young I never gave out gift/loot bags. We would have an item that was an activity and you took that home. One time was tie-dye t-shirts, another time iron on's for t-shirts they then had to fabric paint. Done ceramics, decorated single layer cakes they took home.

I like this! I hate how commercial little kids birthday parties have become - there has to be a destination, or an entertainer, and some other extravagance, and then parting gifts as well.
