I was trying to find that windows 7 launch party thread which was posted earlier, couldnt remember if it was in freebies/deals/contest...

SO. i hit "windows+7+launch+party" in the search box and clicked... waited... ok... hit forums to see what it came up with...

1 - STAPLES: Selected Clearance Items in-stock in Ottawa $9.97-$19.97
2 - $120 Beer Store Gift Card from itspot.com
3 - Sunday Zellers - Wii $200 when you get a first party game/accessory
4 - Tommy Hilfiger Warehouse Sale - Montreal -Starts October 1st - Oct 18th - WoW!
5 - ASPIRE M1202-E1830A (X3 8550/3GB/640GB) PC thesource.ca $399.99 (save $150)

... WTF seriously????? there is only 1 thread up there with ANY relation to the above search i made... and im pretty flippin' sure that the other results probably dont even have 1 of the above keywords within the entire thread............. and how did it not find the thread i was initially searching for... which would have had 100% the keywords i was searching for!?!??!11!one!!

Does anyone else here think that RFD has THE ABSOLUTE WORST search function EVER!?! I usually have to go to google and search there adding in redflagdeals to get anything...

/rant
i feel better.... now i need a beer and a smoke... :D

There's a Site Comments and Suggestions forum for this. So to answer your question, no - this is not where you can rant.

I searched windows 7 launch party and the thread you're looking for was #2, after this thread.

Hey, I'll be honest with you:

RFD's in-site search engine is fine.

It's just that your search ability sucks. As is your ability to read the damn basic search page which states:

The basic forum search includes results from the Hot Deals and Freebies forums only.
Try the advanced forum search for more tailored results.

If you had bothered to do actual work (gasp! work!) you would have realized "hey, if it isn't in freebies or deals (like the damn page said) it must be in the third option I thought of before - contests!" But hey, G*d forbid someone should think for a second.

First a number like 7 won't be found so putting it in is meaningless . Second, I put in "windows party" and it was the 2nd thread (this thread was first). Even when I put your own search words without the quotation marks, it was the 2nd thread and again this thread was first.

Your search link isn't working at the moment. That said, I think it's this one (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/merged-free-windows-7-ultimate-signature-edition-784944/), if I'm not mistaken. ;)

1. No, this is not the right place. I'll move the thread over to the Site Comments & Suggestions forum.

2. You're right, the search you performed doesn't give very useful results...but as it says near the top of the search results, "Note: The basic forum search includes results from the Hot Deals and Freebies forums only.
Try the advanced forum search for more tailored results." . The thread you were looking for was in Contests (for whatever reason), and not in Hot Deals or Freebies.

So use the regular Forum Search instead... In the red bar above (just under the thread title), click the "Search http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/images/misc/menu_open.gif" link and then type your query. You'll get much better results -- that's what the others are doing, and they're consequently confused about why you don't get the same results.

The forum search (not the site-wide search, but the forum one) is actually pretty good. You can even use quotes in it... for example, search for "windows 7" "launch party" with the quotes like that and it'll give you even better results.

thanks for moving the thread. didnt notice the other area...

as for the other posts I am happy for you but what gives???

I have tried:

windows 7 launch party
windows launch party
launch party
microsoft launch party

all with and without "+" function (for those who know about searches with + - " etc...

for some reason it will NEVER return the proper search... almost as if it just returns the newest posts...

I am using Firefox if that makes a difference (i wouldnt think so...).

i love this site (my most visited site by far) however the search function is getting on my nerves... :(

You're using the wrong search.

Use this one:
http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/search.php

The other one is only for searching for deals.
