I am seriously considering purchasing new Pioneer Elite PRO-101FD monitor.
Since it is a monitor it does not come with a built in NTSC/ATSC tuner.

I'll be installing areal antenna to watch over-the-air High Definition TV (HDTV) channels (Canadian and US) based.

What would be the best way to approach this so I am able to watch over-the-air HDTV on this TV monitor?

Any particular external HDTV tuner you can recommend that will not cost me an arm and a leg? After spending tons of money on the Pioneer monitor spending even more on expensive tuner is not desirable;)

Can I just buy DVD recorder that has built in tuner? Will this allow me to watch HDTV on my Pioneer monitor with full HD quality? (I am confused here with all this "1080p upconverting talk?!?)

Any other ideas/ways to watch over-the air- HDTV on the Pioneer monitor and not having to pay Cogeco/Bell dearly every month?

Thanks for all advice/info.

Thanks for the link.
Nice read....took me few hours with all the sub-links but time well spent, learned a lot.
But now I am asking myself maybe buying a Pioneer TV set vs. Pioneer TV monitor is the way to go mainly because of the built in tuner.
Seems all external tuners have some negatives.
Would be nice to read what others who have bought Pioneer Monitor have done to watch OTA HDTV?
Yes I am too cheap and too unwilling to pay Satellite/Cable companies any more.
So my plan is to mainly rely on OTA HDTV for the time being.

Thanks.

What about an htpc with a tuner card? This would allow you to record OTA programs too.

NOTHING beats built-in ATSC tuner...the capability of the built-in ATSC tuner is of utmost importance for me.

Everything looks good off OTA-HD, it is that good. HTPC option is a good one because of recording capability BUT the picture is not as a good as built-in ATSC tuners though the difference is very slight.

IMHO, all STBs are counter-intuitive and clunky. There are ATSC HD boxes, they are meant to be for retro-fitting your 5-year-old DLP or whatever LCD or plasma monitor that didn't have a tuner.
