I am planning to buy a new laptop. I currently have a IBM X30,everything is fine but with small memory and HD. I am wondering how do your guys deal with old laptop when you buy a new one? Is there any computer store I can sell it cheap or organization I can donate?

Thanks in advance

That is a 6 year old notebook. Time to retire it.

I am sure you can get a few bucks for it here in the Buy and Sell.

Remove to wipe hard drive. Give it to somebody. I have never had a hard time getting rid of a laptop that runs xp.

Goodwill will probably take it. I saw two laptops for sale at their downtown Toronto store last year, one a Thinkpad i1400 which came out around 1998/1999.
However, make sure that you wipe it or at least all documents and free space. A decent freeware programme is Eraser (check cnet.com or the author at tolvanen.com for an older version).

You may completely format it and re-install minimal xp and use only for surfing. You may also attach it with your TV and play movies on vlc player or use it as 24 hrs on machine to download stuff.

If more enthusiastic install and play linux intended for low profile computer like kubuntu/puppylinux/Damn small linux etc.

I have a old AMD2400+ laptop, that is attached with my LCD TV, 24hrs ON and used for downloading and playing youtube stuff on my TV. I have purchase wireless keyboard and mouse from Factory direct so i can control from my couch. Pretty cool with friends when they come over and play stuff from internet.
