I'm currently using Syncback to sync drives across my network and I'm fairly happy with it. One peeve I have is that it isn't smart enough to move files instead of copying/deleting.

For example, if I move a folder with 100GB of data (or even rename it), when it syncs it will delete the original folder on the destination drive, then copy the entire "new" folder over from the source drive. This of course takes a long time, chokes my network bandwidth, etc.

Can anyone recommend a program that will recognize that files have been moved (or renamed) and react accordingly? I'm about to re-organize a lot of my files.

You can try SyncToy from Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/details.aspx?familyid=C26EFA36-98E0-4EE9-A7C5-98D0592D8C52&displaylang=en

I've been using it for almost a year. It can detect file rename and explicitly report so in its action. So it should just do a rename rather than deleting and copying the file with a new name.

I just tired SyncToy and it doesn't work. I added a single letter to a bunch of filenames and it detected them as new files then proceeded to copy, then delete the original files.
