What's the cheapest card I could get that would handle 2560x1600 0xAA for recent games?
Is GTX280 a good choice?
PSU is a 650W Corsair.

5870 for a long term solution IMO .. otherwise ya a used GTX 280/285 or 4870 X2 used would be a good cheap solution.

I've realized there's no such thing as a long term solution when it comes to video cards :D
Always been a Nvidia person so that's why GTX280 came to mind. I'll look into the 5870 thanks!

GTX280 has been pretty much discontinued anyways... It's not longer available on NewEgg and is almost exclusive to EVGA as they overstocked on it
a +1 for the 5870/5850.. seems to be that its really worth it for gamers who are looking to play at that resolution

5870 is a powerhouse, it can easily handle 2560x1600 with no AA.
Since you're looking for the cheapest card which can do the above, I'd say 5850 (coming this week) or 5770 (coming in the next few months).

I don't think a single 280 will get you the frames you want. I run 2560x1600 and I don't think there's a single card solution for the more demanding games out there, at least at that resolution. If there is it's the 5870, but it's about par with a GTX 295. I'm hoping Nvidia brings out something really awesome next year, but I think I'll stick with my 2x gtx 260 core 216 sli setup for a while. I wouldn't recommend getting that so late in its life though, but it will hold me over quite nicely til BF3 comes out, at which point I'll want to upgrade.
