Looks pretty good but can't find any reviews. It's $289.99 for this weekend only at Sears.ca:

Here's the price history from PriceCanada.com for this product (http://www.pricecanada.com/p.php/Sonys-DAVHDZ485-51ch-HDMI-BRAVIA-DAVHDZ485-615585/price-history/). The DVD player can upconvert to output 1080P via HDMI. Anyone have any opinions on this? We're not looking for high-end system, just looking for HDMI input, DVD player, and to turn off awful tv speakers that start to crack around "20". Lack of video inputs is OK - we use our tv as a photo display once in a blue moon and assume we'll still be able to.

There wouldn't be anything proprietary about the features on here, would there? It will work just as well on a non-Bravia set, no? There really is very little info available on the 'net.

Any and all input appreciated!

:)

..., just looking for HDMI input, ...

According to Sony's spec's, which Derek included in his original link, there is no HDMI input, just some audio inputs.

I suspect very few entry level HTIB's have video inputs and video switching.

I think I may have mis-written; I guess what I want is HDMI output, which is what this DVD player has, to HDMI-cable into the HDMI input on my Hi-def TV, right? And this player does that, if I understand correctly. :o

Next time, read slowly.

FYI,
Click on specs. Scroll down to Inputs and Outputs column. You will see it.

I believe that you just have to talk to an online CSR by phone. I'm not sure of their policies and if they will need to call Sears to establish availability, though.

Or for those who don't have a BB near their location, you could try applying a $20 off $200 purchase coupon from Sears.

This won't work because the coupon excludes electronics - I tried it.

Here's one review...
Review (http://shopping.ca.msn.com/reviews/sony-davhdz485-5-1channel-1000w-home-theatre-in-a-box/itemid23412649/?itemtext=itemname:sony-davhdz485-5-1channel-1000w-home-theatre-in-a-box)

I was tempted, but I am more looking for something less obvious, and not so glossy... Costco had one last year, that wasn't upconverting, but had small speakers, about 9 inches wide, by 4 high, and they sounded great...

after looking at the system specs it has HDMI output only and input wise optical cable for sound is the best option. connect ur PS3 or watever player u have through Optical cable into the Sony HTIB for sound and for video connect it directly to ur TV. this system will give you better sound but video wise the upconverting is there to make it tad better when watching a DVD. i believe this HTIB to be an entry level since source switching is very limited.

Thanks, much appreciated!

I'll look else where as I need a few htmi and components would be nice. Maybe the Onkyo HTIB.
