Anybody have any opinions on whether this is a good router or not?

Not a good router has many stability issues. Also future shop sells this combo at this price every other month so price is not that particularly good either when you factor is shipping costs.

What's the best deal on a router right now? My D-Link WBR2310 just crapped out on me after less than a year and I need a reliable replacement.

I would've recommended Linksys but I recently tried cheap Belkin from futureshop and have been very impressed with its performance. Beats the WRT54G hands down.

I'd picked up the WGR614 Netgear from factorydirect a few weeks ago for a friend, for $20. It was on sale again last week, and probably will be soon. Seems like it's doing OK so far. Coupon was here, but again, it's currently $30 (http://www.factorydirect.ca/catalog/combo_spec.php?pcode=FC5903&id=347) They do have a N router for $35, although I'd not been able to find any reviews.

Stay away from Trendnet. Spend a few $ more and get something better.

Certainly not a great a router, but it does the job for the price. I had one these Starter kits and they've worked fine if you tweaked a few settings here and there.
But instead of getting this, I would recommend getting the ASUS wL-520, which is on sale quite often. It supports DD-WRT :D

It's ok for what it is. I have the same basic setup only about 2 years older. The one issue I have with it is, it doesn't hold my wired connections all that well. They don't seem to click in as they should, so if you move it around they may come lose and you have to just push them back in, not a deal breaker but annoying. I do a lot of surfing and downloading, it crashes every now and then but not enough for me to change it. I get 54mb/s, just make sure the firmware is up to date. I would not get this if you're going to be gaming online.

Not a bad router, but IMHO you should NEVER cheap out on a router.

Had one, was DOA. The other one, I couldn't setup anything more than 64-bit WEP without the wireless flickering. For the cost difference, a Broadcom based unit with a 3rd party firmware is a no brainer. Personally I'd rather have stability, features and cost rather than a "n" wireless network.

Agreed with the replies here... I needed a wireless router for 2 laptops and I needed a USB adapter for the older laptop that doesn't have wireless built in. I didn't want to fork out a lot of money for a USB adapter/wireless card AND a wireless router so the kit worked for me.
Not using either for gaming - just web surfing, email, maybe a few torrent/movies steaming. For the price, it's a good deal for general internet use IMHO.
Shipping a bit pricey BUT it's shipped via 1-2 day UPS so I don't have to wait 1 week to get it via CanadaPost - Ordered it Noon PST and It should be here today for $50 all in.

newegg.ca has an asus wireless g on sale w coupon code for $36 w free shipping. Thinking I might pick this one up. Any thoughts? Was tempted to go with the belkin $40 draft N one, but it's two years old and review make it sound like it's iffy quality.
Have no intention of using wireless, so if I could find a wired one for cheaper :) I still can't believe how expensive the wireless cards are... ridiculous! $70 for a router and the same price for a card...
Just checked shipping on factorydirect. Would cost me $16 for a $15 refurb router.

I'm torn between two options now :)
asus WL-520gC wireless g (new) from newegg for $42 total (save $8 and free ship)
or
linksys WRT54G2 wireless g (refurb) for $38 total from bedirect
Basically just need a router, right now not going to use wireless at all. Even if I decided to in the future, my apt is only a bachelor... Not worried about 108mbps vs 54mbps since no network streaming, or if transfer files don't really care. Only reason looking at the linksys since it would look so sexy on my desk (assuming they replace the outer casing) and it's a known solid brand.

Bought from FS over a year ago for $29 and it has been flawless with no over heating or disconnection or auto restart issues. I have have 2 laptops, desktop, PS3, Wii and iTouch all connected via this with NO issues at all. I use the USB adapter on the desktop and it always connects.
Personally recommend this.

go n, home networking is the future.
...but from what I can make out N is not the holy grail that people tend to think it is.
At the end of the day you just can't beat a physical connection.

One more option...
I picked up the Buffalo WHR-G300N a couple weeks ago and it had some stability issues but once I flashed it with dd-wrt it has been alllll good!
Newegg has it for $42.99 +tax and free shipping...
