I guess I need to finally upgrade from my Athlon 1700+, but I don't need a beast, I don't game that much (older games), mostly surfing, email, that kind of thing. I heard this CPU is pretty good bang-for-the-buck. My only worry is it's TD, which I've heard lots about here in this forum. So, opinions or alternatives welcomed!

Edit: Sorry, this is the combo I meant

Are you referring to this? deal (http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5241602&csid=_22) I wouldn't say so since ddr3 still expensive or you can change the mobo to am2+ and get ddr2 ram which should be more than enough and considering it a budget upgrade.

NCIX has the Athlon II X4 620 on sale for I think $119.99 as well as the Athlon II X2 240 for $67.99 and they are an extremely reputable (and fast-shipping) company.

www.ncix.com and then click the deal link in the top of the page.

Nothing else to strip out on mobo! Memory is below spec. Good price ($219) for an entry system, but s/h kills it.

Shipping is only $7... doesn't seem that killer.

I didn't qualify for the shipping deal they have, so it's $40 shipping for me. Still it seems like a good deal for a combo. If anyone knows where I can get something similar please post a link, thanks!

The system isn't too bad. I would say if you're looking for a budget deal then just wait a bit (there a dell deal days going right now) and wait for a better vostro 220 deal. you'll have peice of mind with the warranty and a legit OS to boot. -sg

Ya, no operating system...

If you have a retail copy or OEM full copy good deal for the parts but I would get a better vid card even for casual gaming...

If you do not have an operating system then it would get pricy

Will wait for a Dell deal, I like peace of mind, and legit licenses, thanks for advice!

as usual, tigerdirect slap a good cpu with a horribly outdated mobo and bad ram.

The mobo it comes with won't even detect the cpu unless you do a bios update, and I dun even know if the bios update will let it support that CPU.

Your computer will only be as fast as your slowest part.

Mediocre deal. Would not recommend garbage parts to anyone, even on a budget.
