walmart has the arcade for $150, some are jaspers from what I hear. You can pick up a refurb hd for cheap from dx or something like that.

Not a good idea, as a lot of these Hong Kong Specials are absolute crap, and have problems ranging from DOA to data corruption to no partitions for XB Live! games or backwards compatibility - or all/many of the above. Get a bad one, and combined with the initial cost, the tracked/signature shipping back to Hong Kong (req. by Paypal) will run enough to buy a new one from FS.

I could pick up localy used 20GB HDD's for $40 which seems to be the going rate here... :|
But this offer (60GB pro for $250), is $10 less than the Arcade + 60GB Kit which would still be missing the HD Component cable (I know everybody uses HDMI... :D ) and is NEW.

So either cheapa$$ 20GB pro imitation for ~$190 or real 60GB pro for $$250 doesnt't really matter since IMHO the current at BB for the Elite Value Bundle + 2 games for $319 ($10 off PizzaPizza) is the best deal for the XBOX 360 ATM. I grabbed myself an Arcade for $142 yesterday at BB to replace my Pro with a HDMI Jasper. Never had the RROD on my launch Pro ;) and got lucky so far I guess :D but now its out of any warranty and a new "3year" insurance for $140 - what i can get for my old one, seems to be an ok deal.... plus it has HDMI :cheesygri

You should be able to find a HDD on craigslist or ebay as well. Usually from Hong Kong (esp on ebay) but I've bought from there and saved more than $100 on the 120gb drive.

Can anyone confirm if the stooples ones are Jaspers? I think I heard was the Pros and Elites were all Jaspers, but not 100% sure.

alright, I took down the horse gif, but still: it's $200 difference after tax between aracde and elite. Counting retail value of the extras with then elite, yes it's a better deal. BUT, are those extras worth retail, or anything at all, to everyone?
the extras are:
.120gb drive (some may need no drive, or be ok with 20gb drive that can be found for as little as $40)
.headset - worth $0 to me
.wireless networking - if you have a cable near your box, worth $0 (or $20 if you have to move your router to the xbox and put a usb wireless stick on your desktop in your office)
.HD kit to enable same-time HDMI to TV and optical audio to receiver - worth $0 if you can have hdmi-capable receiver, else $10 for 3rd party solution
.hdmi cable - $5
.games - depends entirely on whether you want them, could be value $0 to $150
.gold Live - depends on whether you want the online multiplayer stuff over the silver for 30 days. To me, $0
.black color - to me, $0

so, for me, arcade plus some add-ons (plus some hassling around, I admit) comes out $150 ahead. For others, elite comes out >$150 ahead.

Hey, I sell the odd stuff on EBay anyway, so it's no big deal and I worked it down to probably $70-$75 I'd spend on my Black Arcade at the end of the day.

If I didn't already have 2, I might actually give this a shot. The BB deal is killer, especially as two of the games qualify at EB. Balonis could probably buy me a house just based on those 2 alone. :lol:

I honestly think buying an Arcade or a non-Jasper Elite is short term gain for long-term pain. But then again, if the warranty ifs for three years, you should be able to do the refurb dance until XboxInfinity comes out in 2012.

I'm glad I got my 20GB Pro when they cleared them out. I think MS is going to need to fix this hard drive issue (lower the price and/or let us self-upgrade) if they hope to keep up with the lowered price on PS3, which really does seem to be the better value now. I'd love to be able to toss a 500GB drive in the 360 to store music and videos. The fact that they're still marketing 20 and 60GB drives would be laughable if it weren't so pathetic.

I would use the price guarantee at BB, but it is like a 30 minute walk there, as opposed to 10 minutes for FS. The $10-15 isn't worth it for me...

But there are a lot of Jasper Elites out there now, and there's not as rare as they were in late-2008/early-2009. So just take a trip to a few stores look at the power rating and snag one. I found some at FS when I was checking out the Arcades - stores that constantly move stock will usually have them.
