Ummm, that's bestbuy.COM. You're getting way ahead of yourself. Sad but true, Cdn pricing is way out of whack compared to USA pricing.
*edit* Glad to see we were all typing/posting at the same/similar time. I'll take a burger, fries and chocolate shake OP - and thanks for buying us lunch.

Not actually true...
#1 Depending on where you live/goto, you may have to pay state tax (e.g. if you live in GVR, unless you want to drive 10hrs, you will need to pay 8% on top of the price).
#2 Duty will be added to the cost of the TV
#3 Duty + State Tax will also be tax so the actual price you pay is quite a bit higher (~1400-1500 + travel expenses + a day)
Not to mention you might run into warranty issues etc.

if you leave with an almost empty tank and fill up in the US to lower the cost of your gas :)

no duty on electronics assembled in mexico, however, you will need to pay gst/pst on the purchase price at the border.

The final cost for a BC resident would look like this:
Price USD $1,239.99
WA Tax 1.084 (Whatcom County Rate)
SubTotal $1,344.15
Exchange 1.089 (Bank of Canada Sept 24 Rate)
SubTotal $1,463.78 CAD
GST/PST 1.12 (BC)
Total CAD $1,639.43 CAD
(My 42'' Samsung is made in Mexico, so I am not including the 5.1% duty rate.)
Then you can add gas + travel expenses + a day as it applies to you.

don't forget to add another 1-2 percentage points on the exchange rate because only banks get the BOC exchange rates. banks and CCs tack on an extra point or two whether you buy at store or purchase US cash in Canada.
that's about another $25 plus PST and GST.

If you go pick one up for me too.;)
If you are from ottawa like me, you are better off driving to Colchester, Vermont (3 hours) and gettig this. If in Montreal, it is even closer.

I hope nobody goes to FS to do the price match and get pwned bt the monkeys LOL!
These are normal everyday price in US. TVs are way cheaper in the States, the bigger it gets, the bigger the price difference compared to Canada.
And the worst offender is actually not Samsung but Panasonic.

I have read that some Panasonic plasmas have serious flickers issue displaying 1080p24 properly. May be it is just limited to the G10/G15 models...
Big flat panel prices down South are really tempting. I couldn't care less about warranty issue with such huge price differences...

All of the Panasonic plasmas below the V10 have flicker issues when displaying 1080p24. It's because they use a 48hz refresh rate for the 24hz inputs. The V10 and Z1 use a 96hz refresh rate with 24hz input, which eliminates the flicker.
However, unless you're a serious videophile and need 1080p24, the G10 is currently one of the best TV's being made.
