View Full Version : Will you be an early adopter of Windows 7?

Just wondering what your plans are! My computer has been having a lot of problems recently so I was going to buy a new computer/parts in the near future. Thought about just waiting until Win7 is out and use that rather than the hassle/potential problems of updating.

On the flipside, am wondering if it's worth waiting or even going straight to win7 at right away regardless. It seems to be a big change - what if it's actually full of problems?

I know/have seen plenty of Win7 installs and a lot of people really do like it, but just wondering if being an early adopter is a wise decision... :)

Already adopted. 2xPCs and 1xlaptop. Between the three, I am running 1 x64 and 2 x86 copies of Win 7. I have had no problem with the installation and configuration. In fact, Win 7 was able to find, pretty much, all of the drivers on its own (mind you, you would want to provide the proper video card drivers).

I've been running RTM (MDSNAA) on a laptop since mid-august with no issues.

I've been planning on moving my desktop to Windows 7 when I had a bit of time, but recently I've been considering holding off until I buy an SSD.

Going to shell out for the family pack if it becomes available as reported... I've seen enough of the beta and RC that I have no qualms upgrading everything in the house (except perhaps the netbook) to it.

Beta/RC is early adopting... barring some fairly catastrophic issues, it's a pretty safe bet as far as I'm concerned.

I am running Win 7 RC on both my laptop and desktop, plus RTM on the netbook. Works fine.

Using Win7 on my laptop, and it's faster than XP and more stable.

I've been using Windows 7 x64 RTM on the desktop for the past couple months, and it's a tad faster than Vista. For those who think that XP would be faster, it isn't, because it can't handle the majority of the hardware in my computer. Windows 7 isn't that much faster in terms of speed, but in terms of User Interface refinement, it's definitely up there. Finding stuff, as much as I hate to say this, is far easier, and the redesigned taskbar is definitely worth the upgrade.

I haven't had any issues with it crashing, and considering the stuff I do on it, that's pretty surprising.

I will wait for a little bit. For example the Intel GMA 950 drivers on my laptop weren't completed yet, and there was a limitation of functions.

I haven't attempted using it on my desktop yet though. But from my experience it seems alright, but I don't think it's really a humongous difference compared to Vista which I've used for over 2 years now.

I'm guessing i'll be replacing my computer within a year. So I don't see the point of sticking windows 7 on my current computer, and I'll just make sure my new one gets an OEM copy of windows 7 on it.

I'll be building a new one in November and it will get Windows 7.

Running it on my dell x1 laptop. Bit disappointed as there is no video driver even though there was on the RC. Have 3 other keys to use and will do the desktop when I decide to rebuild it. Wouldn't mind waiting for a 2nd ssd first though.

Running legit x64 rtm here... some minor driver issues but nothing that is a real problem.

My main desktop was running xp but needed a reformat, so I had gotten a MSDNAA key for 64bit. Installed it and never looked back.

Also just bought a laptop with 32bit vista with the free upgrade to windows 7 when it officially releases, but I couldn't wait and installed my own 64bit copy for now.

Hate vista and xp is really getting outdated. Great OS and I used mac OSX but im not a huge fan of it.

I have 10 machines in the household. 5 run Vista and 5 run XP.

I won't be buying Windows 7 this year but perhaps after the new year, I will migrate all the Vista copies on the XP machines and install new W7 copies on the current Vista machines.

XP really is outdated. I got so used to the Vista interface...

I have to use XP at work. It really feels dated after getting used to Vista and 7.

Running Win7 and Vista (64 bit RTM for both) on my computer. Win7 was able to find all the drivers on its own, which was quite amazing. The new task bar still takes a while to get used to though, and I can't say I prefer it over Vista.

I'm going to build a new computer in the next couple of months and I've already paid for a copy of Windows 7. It seems like a fairly safe choice for new PCs.

I guess it depends on the crack. I've been using Vista Ultimate x64 (cracked) for like 2 years, and no i have problems at all (I can install all the updates and etc).

I just bought a computer and a Vista (with Win7 Upgrade).

It just sucks that I will have to run Vista for a month and then do an upgrade. I might just re-install from scratch once I get my Win7 (disc or license).

Anyone know if the Win7 key will just be e-mailed to you if you choose to just download Win7 instead of getting it shipped?

I'm running 2 copies of x64 and 1 copy of x86. No problems except I needed to find the wireless card driver on my older laptop to get the wireless working. After that it found all the drivers by itself.

I really like it. The only thing I don't like is that there are a lot more sub-menus to go through in the control panel to get to important network settings etc. compared to XP. There are also buttons I miss in windows explorer like the up one level button. That was handy.

Is it just me or does this thread look like it's about 10months late (or whenever the first beta versions were released).

I've had W7 on all our laptops and since 3months on all desktops.

WTF're you talkin' about OP?

i guess the consensus for 7 is pretty positive, certainly seems moreso than it was for vista.. hey if we buy a new desktop in november, can we use the recovery cd that usually comes with the package, and use it to install windows 7 on my current vista machine?? is that er, legal, and would it work either way?

There are probably ways to do it, but it's basically running a crack, so you might as well just crack it and install on the other comp.

It won't be legal either way.
