Your local Best Buy should have one of those electronic recycling boxes (big cardboard white/green box). They accept cds.
Futureshops too I think.

Give them to a school, which can use them for art projects.

microwave them, 3-5 seconds each (I'd be cautious with 6-9+). You'll see some pretty cool lighting affects (fromt he aluminum in the disk popping off ), and it is also fume-less. Afterwards you get some pretty cool looking disks too, But pretend you didn't read that since no art projects are alloud :P
Also check if some of them are 'live file systems'. If so, the disk will act like a usb key.

I wanted to buy this chair frame, so i can use all my old blanks, but i emailed the designer and she won't sell just the frame. So i would end up with more trash cd's.

Some of us have files on our discs which make them unsuitable for schools, if you catch my drift.

i catch your drift.
i had to take a butterknife to all my cd's and scuff them up, before tossing them out in the trash.
I will have to do the same again, before a trip to Best Buy..

can the data still be recovered if the disc is 'scuffed up'???

some of it, but its not worth the effort of piecing a damaged disc back together.
It's only done in extreme cases.
I make sure to give the disc at least 3-4 good slices, from the inside out.

they only take commercial cds/dvds though. you send them your unwanted ones, they cover shipping. they sell the discs and all proceeds go towards the spca.

Will only work well with pressed CDs as writeables/re-writeables use dye, not aluminium.

...and make sure you scuff up the top of the disc (label side) because that's closer to where the data is actually stored.

The City of Toronto has one more 'environment' day on Oct 24 @ 2 locations. See here (http://www.toronto.ca/environment_days/schedule.htm#oct)
They will take old CDs/DVDs plus computers and other stuff too. All free of charge.

Build one yourself.
I wonder if you can accidentally cut your nut sack though. I like to lounge in the nude.

I had over 400 CDr's/Dvd'd - I just broke the one with non suitable material and then gave them all to Bestbuy who recycled them for free.

Consider it as a sacrifice for the good of the environment. :D

Make a new coffee table or some lamp bases.
You would need to get something made of metal to hold the cd's into stacks than something like plastic or glass for the top.
or you could always try making some storage boxes by joining the CD's together with wire.
Go to micheals crafts and home depot...lots of crafty stuff there :)
I try to make some of my own decorations for home and also fix stuff a little or try anyways:lol:
