It's a birthday bash! You and yours are invited to join us!

Everyone is invited to the Ontario Science Centre's 40th Birthday Celebration!! September 26, 2009

You won't want to miss this special day offering free general admission to the Science Centre (parking and OMNIMAX ticket fees apply. Free general admission offered September 26, 2009 only).

Everyone is welcome at these great events:

Opening Ceremony (11:00 am)
The Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will commence the celebrations by bringing official greetings in the presence of Ms. Lesley Lewis, Science Centre CEO, and Mr. Mark Cohon, Chair of the Board of Trustees. The Lieutenant Governor will cut the ceremonial cake before a children's choir sings Happy Birthday and 2000 birthday cupcakes are distributed.

Family Food Game Show
Inspired by the popular Family Feud show, teams of visitors answer food questions and compete for prizes. Whether you are onstage or in the audience, you'll enjoy this interactive show. Who knew that food facts could be so much fun? Check the menu boards for scheduled times. Imperial Oil Auditorium, Level 1. Sponsored by SUBWAY(r) restaurants

North of Superior Film
See the first Canadian film to be created with IMAX technology, the 1971 film North of Superior. It will be playing four times at no charge at 11:00 & 11:30 am, 4:00 & 4:30 pm. Get your free tickets at the box office (limited number of seats. Tickets available September 26, 2009 only).

40th Anniversary Contest

Sidewalk Art
Also outside, Artist Victor Fraser will be creating a work of sidewalk chalk art in TELUSCAPE, which will be filmed in time-lapse video and shown at the party. You can contribute to the design.

Eat Like it's 1969
A selection of food items (hamburgers, hot dogs and juice) will be available at the special price of just 69 cents.

Birthday Wishes
Don't forget to wish us a happy birthday by signing the giant birthday card on Level 1 across from the Mastermind gift shop but please don't bring a gift to the party. If you wish to show your support for the OSC there will be a donation box on site. Better yet make your online gift today by going to www.OntarioScienceCentre.ca. All gifts over $40 dollars will receive special recognition on our donor wall in 2010.

Take The TTC
Taking public transit to the Science Centre is easy and environmentally friendly. Take the Yonge Street subway line to the Eglinton station and
transfer to the Eglinton East (route 34) bus. Get off at Don Mills Road . Or, take the Bloor-Danforth subway line to the Pape station and transfer to the Don Mills (route 25) bus. Get off at St. Dennis Drive , right in front of the Science Centre.

Something to Celebrate

This 'Birthday Party' celebrates 40 years of igniting curiosity in science and technology. As one of the first interactive science museums in the
world, the Ontario Science Centre has been an inspiration and model for science centres that have been created since its inception. The Ontario
Science Centre opened on Sept. 26, 1969, within a few months of San Francisco's Exploratorium, the first of a new breed of science museums that actively engage visitors with hands-on, interactive experiences. This became the template for hundreds of science centres to follow. Well over 40 million visitors have passed through our doors since then.

I would totally do this if I didn't have plans for Saturday...went a few years back with my ex and we loved it...tons of interesting things to look at and do and worth the money...for Free, even better, but i expect it to be rammed beyond belief.

The movie that's playing there, North of Superior, takes me back and I have fond memories watching it as a kid many years ago at Ontario Place. The song that plays throughout the movie is haunting and the beauty and images in the film makes you glad to be living in Canada.

I'll be going too. However, do you think people will be camping out at the entrance?

Am I reading this wrong or are we not allowed to see Body Worlds. From the web:
"your chance to win free memberships, membership extensions or pairs of VIP passes to BODY WORLDS & The Story of the Heart. "

Would we have to pay to see this part or is this free as well?

I know expired but

I went as well, and I got there at like 9:20am. The lineup wasn't that bad (about 150 people), and I had lots of fun. The pizza and hot dogs were sold out at like 1:30pm, at least I got a few before they did. I also watched North of Superior and it was amazing. Finally, I got a Subway Restaurant Card.

The Cupcake line was a little unfair as people swiped like four without the coordinators looking (One person swiped one whole tray.)
