Hey there,

I've got a small chip in my windshield and I can notice it getting slightly worse.

It's only a matter of time before a crack develops.

Can anyone recommend an autoglass place that can fill this?

I usually advise standard auto glass...they also have a mobile service...least they used to..

Apple auto glass - paid $70 for it. Just to let you know there might be blemishes left after getting windshield repair.

I used AB1 Top Auto Glass, once to replace my front windshield and one other time to replace the rear. The jobs were quick and easy and it's a mobile service.

What I recommend you do is call around and ask for estimates. You can also go to those auto glass repair places (looks like a tent) in front of canadian tire stores. They can give you a quick estimate, too.

$75-$100 is nothing compared to a full windshield replacement. An aftermarket windshield replacement is about $400-$500. If you go to an OEM windshield replacement, the bill can easily climb to $1000 or more

The aftermarket windshield is usually of a much lesser quality than OEM.

It depends on the location of the chip, if it is in your direct field of view, a repair will leave a slight blur that can distort the vision a bit in that area and it can get very annoying and distracting. Personnally I become dizzy looking through a distorted windshield.

Get that chip fix asap, vibrations on the road can easily make the whole thing crack

I called a couple autoglass places and I was told insurance companies will pay for chip repairs free of charge with no deductible or effect on premiums.

When I called my insurance company I was told there was a deductible.

But when I went into the shop, the guy there called for me and was able to set everything up for free.

I guess they prefer going through insurance b/c they charge $100 with them vs $50 through me.

Check the local CT parking lots, I have had a couple of chips filled for about 40 bucks a pop. I also found a local guy from this forum for the same. All did a ggod job.

I have used Speedy Auto glass a few times. My car has 2 chips in it and the other car has 1.

They did a good job, chip hasn't gotten larger after a few years (**knock on wood**).

The price range was from $40-60. Definitely worth it and best to get it done sooner than later.

I went with Auto Glass Worx (Derry & Dixie) for the windshield replacement of my Dodge Caravan. Very satisfied with the quality of work and service. You can choose OEM or aftermarket (ordinary or premium glass) and Ken (supervisor) will explain everything to you the difference in quality of each glass. I paid $330 (tax incl) for around 2hrs wait.

Did that for a small chip in my front windshield last spring, paid $60 cash to have the guy reseal it, took 20 mins and he gave me a receipt and warranty form.

+1 for Auto Glass Worx. The guy, Ken, is very knowlegable. They do the replacements for dealers like Budds' BMW. He replaced our Audi windshield and it's great. He did a very clean professional job. I was very careful to find someone who knows what they're doing because I read up a lot about replacement. Considering he does quite a few big dealerships I figured if they contract to him he must be doing something right. Pretty sure he can fix chips.

re chipped windshield
I would suggest & have had good experience with "Speedy Auto Glass." They are a cross country chain and seem to really have the rectification of 'chip damage' down. As I remember they are not too expensive BUT know that you can't drive on & on with a chip-it WILL become a crack & require a new windshield. I would still suggest them for that job too. Hope that helps. M.

I have a tiny surface chip (3-4mm) right in my line of sight. Can the repair be done so that I won't even notice it?

I've used GO Glass.. $50+tax. I couldn't find where the chip was after they filled it in.
