View Full Version : Rant about +1 and useless comments

I just needed to post this somewhere to get the frustration out...

Personally sometimes I think some people on this site just post to get their count up or see their name on the web. Don't take this the wrong way....many people provide alot of help and usefulness on this site and I quite enjoy many of the threads on this site, but all the +1 and saying two words here and there....that don't add anything to the main topic....makes me wonder sometimes (Is everyone young and 16 on this site?) and it makes for a heck of alot more scrolling when trying to follow a thread as you read fifteen +1 +1 +1 +1 +1 comments and then finally see a comment that is useful...and adds to the topic...and this is done by many people on this board. I try to make each of my posts actually worth something. /end of RFD Rant.

How do you people survive? Those 20 page a day threads might turn into a 5 page readable and useful thread. LOL

P.S. If this is the wrong forum to post it in.....MY BAD. HA

its a way for people to acknowledge that they agree with the person and they`re not the only ones with that opinion.

Instead of +1 would you rather someone just copy and paste the post they agree with?

Maybe in addition to a "Thank" button, individual posts should have a "agree" button, that people can click and there can be a little bar graph for each post that shows how many users agree or disagree with the comment... of course, not all comments are "disagree" or "agree" compatible, but for ones that are, it would be like having the opportunity to have a mini poll per post.

Otherwise, yes, +1 is a concise way to say "I agree with what you said". I think that kind of thing is pretty important in a community such as this: suppose someone is chastising another user for suggesting an illegal activity, and people "agree" with that chastising, having lots of +1 posts sends a clear message to the poster and the community at large what kind of thing passes the standard of the community.

Maybe like Facebook. There is an option for people to say that "They like this" for a comment.
