my ride - corolla 1997 is making clicking noise when i drive at slow speeds from front left wheel. I am being told that these could be axle requiring a replacement.

Does any one know how much is the approx cost of the replacement axle (both front ones) on a corolla 1997. just am wondering is these are actually axles that require replacement, i am hoping they arent expensive then the car itself :(

Thats a loaded question...

What engine? with or without ABS?

Anyway. At the most Probably $75 per shaft and probably 2 hours labour per side. Thats my guess.

Find your car in there, then find the approximate price of the axles. I find their shipping rates are high, however they are a very good approximation of what the cost will be (when you include shipping) at Canadian Tire/NAPA (For a non-sale price).

As for labour - 1 hour per side would be my estimate. At a shop with air tools, it's irrelevant how rusted on the axle nuts are (especially since you are replacing the axles and not just the CV boots, so they can destroy the axle).

You will also have some other small costs associated with the repair - your transmission fluid will need to be replaced (Might be a good time to get the filter changed too, if you drive an automatic) and you should get both axle seals replaced as well. You may have to pay a little more in the shop fee to cover new axle nuts.
