Well it's a 07 Honda it LX. I was thinking I should start thinking about getting rims and throwing on the winter tires on the rim. What is a good place to get rims and winter tires? I need basic winter tires, nothing special, just want to get up the hill near home. Any suggestions?

Also I was thinking of going to Krown for rustproofing.

Does anyone know where I can see the maintenance schedule for Honda fit 07? The car has 76K on it.

Tx!

Good for thinking practical. Go someplace in your town and ask for the wheel and tire package. Most likely will be in the 5 to 700 dollar range, wheels, tires, mounted and balance. If you ind the right place, they may even store your summer tires and rims for you.
Do not get caught up in the "which one is the best winter tire" or "what size should I get" debate. Get a basic winter tire, same size as you have now and put it on when the temps get below 5 C and stay there.
Krown is as good as anyone else and they have been around for many many years.
Take it to a dealer for the first service you do. They will check for any recalls, applicable service bulletins and perhaps even have previous maintenance data on the computer (if they are linked to other dealers). After that, take it wherever you like. While at the dealer, get a maintenance schedule from them (if you don't have your owners manuals).
My opinion only and I await the folks that hate dealerships tell me I am all wrong and you should never go to a "stealership".

I believe Canadian Tire currently has some winter tires on sale for 25% off, which is a fairly good price.

Thanks for the suggestions re winter tires and the honda maintenance schedule. While I purchased it second hand the previous owner purchased an extended 160 km warranty on it (or through 2014).

The only driving you do is up/down a hill near your house? Doesn't really sound like a great reason to own a car.

I think he means the winter tires are mainly for handling the hills near his house as opposed to where ever else he takes the car.

But then they're not "mainly for" the hills, they are for the fact that there is driving around in winter being done and therefore the vehicle should have winter tyres. Now perhaps the hills are the worst-case scenario, and that's fine to mention, but you don't "just" need winter tyres to go up hills you need them for winter driving, period.

Lots of people will be glad to tell you otherwise, as much as you'd like to claim!

You're original comment suggested you interpreted that he only drives up/down a hill near his house. I suppose you meant he should have winters for his driving beyond that worst case scenario but that doesn't come across well (not going into whether thats my fault or yours).

However the OP may be confident enough driving every where else without winter tires. To my dismay (as a stickler for safety) I know enough people who have gone years without winter tires with zero accidents or close calls. But that whole direction of discussion is OT and would hijack this thread.

And those people and their thinking would be one of the major problems on the road today--the people that cause accidents and kill people. No it's not the street racers or the speeders that cause the majority of the problems on the road, it's everyone else. (Note that I'm not condoning street racing or excessive speed either, but it's certainly not the bigger picture.) It's that majority that think driving is some kind of joke, something to be approached with a laissez-faire attitude and a mentality that scapegoats instead of assuming responsibility.

Exactly and it's that "confidence" (we should say false confidence) is encompassed in the whole mentality which provides for the unsafe roads we currently drive on (again it's not something you can just blame on street racers and whaever other garbage the government feeds you).

You go ahead and call it a hijack if you want but my agenda is certainly to stop that mentality and bring it to light because road safety is certainly my priority. If I have to continually point it out and remind people I will certainly do so in the interest of their safety, my safety, and everyone else's. "Road saftey starts with you." (About the only message I've ever seen the government come out with, regarding road safety, that actually means anything at all.)

Again the thinking that you need winter tyres only for or mainly for getting up certain pesky hills, is problem thinking. A better way to think about it is to understand it's winter, therefore you need winter tyres. Encouraging road safety through a better approach to driving is not a hijack in my book.

ES, you have contributed a lot. You have had some very good informative posts but lately, unfortunately, you have been taking sentences or phrases out of context and gone berserk (proper use of the word) with them.
The OP was stating there was also a hill near his home. Stay on topic and please don't inflict us with your crusade (whatever that may be today). :)

Thanks to those who are kind to respond in a rational manner like Pete_Coach.

Unfortunately it is difficult to feel that this is a board where people can come for advice without ES-Revenge coming out of nowhere with wildly ridiculous interpretations. It's too bad because there is much to learn but it doesn't feel good when one gets the sense a sniper can come out of the bushes and spoil a fun party.
