Ok so today was the first day for me to commute to york. So I drove to playdium and I parked there at 7am to take the GO bus to york. When I returned at 3 it appears I, along with about like 15 other cars got tickets for parking at playdium.
There were no signs saying this is private property, and I just assumed I can park there since the GO bus parking lot there is quick to fill.
There are other several spots that people can park, but they all belong to some stores, like Chapters, Sportchek, Alice, Jack Astor. SO WHERE are people allowed to park?
and is there a chance I can appeal to this damn ticket? Like I said, there were no signs there stating parking on the property can net a ticket.

There is no sign on my neighbours driveway, but I know better than to park my car there.
Square One parking is the only place I can think of. Watch though, most of it is guarded in the morning. Best thing would be to ask security at the mall, you can see them in morning sitting in their trucks guarding the parking.

It is your responsibility to find proper parking. You could go to a green P web site or other parking places to find proper parking.
As afretes said, you should take the due diligence here to seek out the info. just pay the ticket and have this as a lesson learned. Be lucky that it was not towed away (which they could have easily done).

Your GO ticket doesn`t entitle you to a parking spot. I know this first hand trying to find a parking spot at Erindale Station only to go to Cooksville or sometimes Dixie to get a ride to Union.

I took the GOtrain from Clarkson to Union for 4 years, honestly all I can suggest is you get there early to be one of the few who can get parking in an authorized spot.
There is a small lot that can fit about 150-200 cars at Station Gate Road and Centre View Drive

If you go and try to fight this ticket off, I don't think you will have much success with it. However, you can definitely get it reduced to $10 from your early payment $20 option at the Ontario Court of Justice on Burnamthorpe Rd. Just kindly apologize to the first attendant you will be speaking to and don't forget to mention the secret word "Student" in order to get it down to $10. Be kind, polite and apologetic and you won't have any problems getting it down to $10.

Look on the GO website to see what parking lots belong to them.

thanks for all the replies that were of use.
So where do people park? there are tons of people that park and ride there, and the GO lot cannot possibly accomodate all

Vincent, you are going to University, clearly an educated person, many grown up things are going to be expected of you, this is just one step in your march to becoming an adult.
You done wrong, pay the ticket, suck it up and find a proper place to park or...heaven forbid, pay to park.

Our peace officers at work here have indicated that you can have tickets thrown out for incorrect (or missing) signage, which they say is often the case with small companies making their own signs.
Because you are dealing with a large development, managed by a company that manages many large developments (or at least I assume), their signs should be proper. However, you can appeal the ticket if you find out what your city details must be present for the ticket to be valid (such as signage, bylaw number, etc...) and win.

Ugh. Did you read all the post people wrote? Everyone gave good advice, or at least some good sense.
Don't post on a public forum if you're not ready to take the heat.

Is this a City of Mississauga ticket or a "private" parking ticket?

That's your comeback?
My point was that when you put your story out there, you're going to get all sorts of responses. Anybody can post anything they want, and if you don't like the responses, than don't put it on a public forum.

I know this does not help your problem, but this is one of the problems when a city is planned around the car. It gets very difficult for public transit to work in an area that has a low population density. Buses can't run down every street, but main streets are too far apart to walk to. So every place needs huge parking lots because you need to drive everywhere.
Mississauga, Markham, any suburb built in the last 50 years were all built around the car.

I have the same issue, I really don't understand how this whole situation can be so assinine. I'm a student, and I now have $40-50 in parking fines to pay, for parking in an empty parking lot.

You can try Prince of Wales west of living arts drive, or living arts drive north of Prince of Wales...basically north of living arts center, west side of street, west side of building, or the street where the condo is half finished. There are no parking signs or paying for parking signs yet, its fills up early, as its the only 'free' street parking around there. I live on Prince of Wales, its usually pretty full by 8-830 am, with construction ppl & other Go bus people. What time are you getting there? Square one not an option?

you should know better. your suppost to take the "bus" to the go station lot, then bus your sorry ass to school, or get "dropped off" at the go station and buss your sorry ass to school.
city's like mississauga are becoming less parking friendly. you can't even park at condos anymore without getting ticketed or finding a free spot

If you find a "lot", and it's paved, chances are it's either owned by the province, or privately owned. I don't see many random parking lots POPPING up all over!

You can try parking on residential streets nearby the uni if the signage allows and you don't mind the walk. Keep in mind the city's 3 hour limit bylaw.
Some people don't appreciate it though:

i don't know if the place you go to hop on the York GO is considered a GO 'station' but bus fare is only $0.60 if you're taking it to a GO station in Mississauga

What more advice do you want? Most adults dont need help in where to park their car.
There is no secret special magical spot where you can park all day for free.

I have conducted enforcement at that location many times and can assure you that there are signs clearly posted at the entrance to the parking lot stating that it is private property for customers of Playdium only. You will find that all of the businesses in that area, including Square One, have similar signs posted because commuters insist on taking up parking that is intended for their customers. There is a GO Transit Parking lot located next to Playdium at Station Gate Road and Centre View Drive (can only be accessed via Centre View Drive). It has 200 parking spaces and is first-come, first-served. Count yourself lucky you were not towed away because the property management sometimes requests that be done.
