Hi guys,
I just bought a 2004 Honda Civic LX Coupe from a dealership and I have to say, the car is rock solid, it drives amazing and feels GREAT, I'm in LOVE with Honda's!
I'd like to ask if anyone has had this vehicle and if they can provide some advice on what things to do to take care of the vehicle. I'd like to be baby it as much as I can and to keep it running.
It has about 105,000KM on it and the interior and exterior is in great shape. Inside of the engine, everything looks good but I did notice that some of the screws that hold the alternator & timing belt look a bit rusted. Should I be worried about any of this? Can they be replaced, is that a good idea?
Thanks

It is a nice car and a good reputation and most importantly, you like what you got. I had a 2001 coupe and liked it a lot.
Rusty screws make no sense but, perhaps the timing belt has been replaced already and the tech just threw some screws he had lying around back in the covers. Has the belt been changed yet? If not, that is an expense you can look forward to in the near future. As for the screws, leave them in.
Also, what you paid is your business, some people just need to know cause they have nothing else to post. You have the car already so that is that.

Hey Pete,
I was thinking the same thing - timing belt! How do you think I can check to see if it needs to be replaced without taking it to a mechanic?
Thanks

Congrats on the car......glad you enjoy yours. I also have a 2001 coupe that has 200k and still runs like new, love it. Shouldn't be too concerned about the bolts. I did my timing belt a little late at 150k, I would say do it soon or next year to be safe. Make sure you get a transmission and coolent service too. I do it every 2-3 years.

It has been a while but I think it is quite a job to inspect the belt. There is a guy on the forum that has a post called "Ask me anything about Honda service and repairs". He is HondaServiceGuy.
He may have all the specific answers you need. Lots of pages of Q's and A's and he seems to be in the business right now.

Congrats on your new civic, I had a 2000 (last of the previous body style) Civic Si, and loved that for what it was. It definitely never gave me ANY worries, and I bet yours will be the same.
