Hey, I was wondering if anyone's tried the Black Asphalt Undercoating aerosol/pail product sold @ CDN Tire for DIY rustproofing.

I purchased an aerosol can of this stuff for less than 5 bucks, but a much larger pail for self brush application is available for $30. For compact cars, this 510g aerosol should be sufficient to cover the whole underbody.

I haven't rustproofed my car in a few years by a professional rustproofer, but i thought I'd give this a try. From what i remember, the rustproofing done by my dealer seemed like they just applied layers of asphalt tar/oil so applying this Black Asphalt Undercoating shouldn't be too far off. Should be a lot better than applying nothing at all.

A cheap substitute to actual "pro" rustproofing, we shall see...

Don't use this stuff. It's worse than not using anything at all. Get a can of bulk rustcheck or krown instead if you want DIY. Put into a pump sprayer.

Even WD40 works almost as well as Krown or Rustcheck:

I don't know about you, but I think it's no good.
If you ever seen or had your driveway newly paved, and spray water with a hose or had rain falling hard you'll see it appears to be waterproof.
But after sometime you'll start to see it no longer is waterproof, and it no longer beads.

What I'm trying to get at is, I don't believe in the quality of their product.
I'd suggest you check your local napa, see if they sell any undercoating or rust proofing products and ask what materials inside and ask for recommendations. I've bought customized paint from them a few years ago, from their PPG lineup. Undercoating is much simpler than that.

Boehshield is supposed to be pretty good. Although, I think you have to apply it every 4-6 months.
