Hey guys, I know for the G1/G2(?) test you get your eyes checked. But do you have to get an eye exam for the G test? I heard the next time you get your eyes tested are when you're a senior.

Yes. They do not test your eyes when you get your G. That is unless you have the condition on your license for glasses, and had corrective surgery and want the condition removed, then you can request it.

Everytime you get your renew your licence (every 5 years) I think they test your eyes again. So I'm not sure you get tested when getting your G unless your 5 years is already up and you are renewing at that time as well.

The sad part about the G test however is that the eye test (if you get eye tested) is probably the hardest thing about it.

No, you do not need an eye test every 5 years. I am not positive but I think you only need an eye test when you are 75 or 80.

Wow so it's even more lax than I thought. Amazing they won't even test your eyes every 5 years... How many other dangerous ideas can we uncover about licensing, done in order to save a buck? Seems like the sky is the limit when it comes to putting people's lives at risk

I only had my eyes checked for the written G1 test. I've since renewed my license and had no such test and don't think there are any till your 80 or whatever. Explains why Ontario drivers are so bad around the GTA as half of them are close to blind.

just got my g renewed, did not do eye test.

the only condition when you get your eye tested is when you've had an expired license for more than a year, they will test your eyes.

If you let your class G licence lapse (expire) for more than one year, but less than three years, you will have to pass an eye test in order to obtain your class G licence again.
