Just the other day this week, I noticed there was a cop stationed just a few meters north of the yonge street exit from the Queen Elizabeth Way (Gardiner)
I've been doing left turns in the middle lane for YEARS on that stretch of the ramp that goes to Yonge st. north. Just the other day I happened to be in the FAR LEFT lane doing a turn, well, the only reason I was there is because for once in my life, the left lane was actually free, so I decided to squeeze into it with no problems and turned left as soon as the light turned green (not sure if it was a left turn arrow??) I went left. The taxi beside me in the middle lane, also followed and turned left onto yonge, but was stopped by this Police Officer and was probaly given a heafty ticket/fine.
Does anybody know the fine for turning left in the middle lane?

I'm gonna assume it's a "disobey sign" ticket, just the same as proceeding straight on a right-turn-only lane... it's $110.

Why were you "always doing it" if the middle lane wasn't marked to turn left?

Why were you "always doing it" if the middle lane wasn't marked to turn left?
i knew someone would have the nerve to ask that question instead of answering my original one. Well here's your answer. for the longest time, you could not see the lines on the road, you could not see which lanes go left,, but EVERYBODY goes left onto yonge, no body goes right, cus why? well cus if you wanted your car to end up in the lake, lol it does not make sense to have 2 right turn lanes, when all the traffic is going north. Secondly, EVERYONE turns left in the middle lane, ALL the time, day time, night time, mid day, etc... Every one does it, you see the guy infront of you signaling left, so you naturally do the same, plus the far left lane is so congested, you can't get into the lane quickly enough to make the left lane to turn.
There, does that satisfy you?

Why are you so aggressive and conflict oriented when you are not even in the right?

For years there were two left turn lanes onto Yonge St. northbound (the middle lane had the option of turning left or going straight on road parallel to Lakeshore Blvd. That changed about 6-9 months ago and the overhead signs are CLEARLY marked now - only one left turn lane. Also, the painted lines on the ground CLEARLY direct the middle lane as going straight only (even painted throughout the whole intersection.)
Apparently, the OP can't follow even the simplest road signs and markings.

I'm unfamilar with the intersection but it seems like another fellow RFDer answered you:

Plus, even if the roads aren't marked, there are ALWAYS signs on the left and right of an exit ramp telling you which lanes can go left or right or forward.

THIS. The middle lane used to be a good way to get into the right lane. Now you have to scoot over from the right lane to the left lane - with not a whole lot of road to do so - and turn left only from the left lane. It pays to pay attention.

so thats why everybody still turns left in that lane? maybe they were not aware or were not paying attention to the signage? and to the guy who said i can't see the markings on the road, well they may have re-paved it or painted new lines recently, but for the longest time, the lines were so faint, you would not be able to see them if u were new to the area.

There are always signs and markings. If the markings were gone, you can look at the signs. If some kid drew on them or destroyed them, then you surely have a case and can go to court for the ticket.

This is exactly what happened. They painted new lines which very clearly show that the centre lane is not to be used to access Yonge street.

If EVERYBODY turns from the middle lane, then the left lane (the actual turning lane) would be empty. They know how to do it. Just get in the line like all the people that are following the signage. You are guaranteed to be ticket free.

Wow so many things wrong with that statement.
First you mean "I'm going to assume you're wrong." Second, you mean "Just got off the phone..."
Third, by "they took off 4 dimirit points" you mean demerit points and by "they" I actually have no idea what you mean... The police cannot "take off" demerit points; and, in fact, demerit points aren't taken off at all, they are added. Hence the term demerit. And yeah it's not the police that do the adding of the demerits it's the MTO. Police have nothing to do with that.
Next up you don't actually get the demerit points until you are convicted so unless your friend already paid the ticket, they haven't received any demerit points from this occurence as of yet.
Finally I don't think turning from the wrong lane even carries as much as four demerit points, it sounds more like a 2-point offence (though I could be wrong).
I could probably find more errors in what you posted but I'll stop there. Seriously think before posting next time. K thx, bye.

Who the hell still says kthxbye nowadays? And since when did RFD turn into a grammar and spelling checking place? I thought you only hated Economy cars, but sounds like you also spaz sometimes
PS: For the record, you spelled occurrence and offense wrong. Lol.

I believe offense can be spelled both offense and offence. American english and British english :)
So OP:
What did the ticket say? I said in the 1st reply of the thread I'm guessing it's a disobey sign ticket, which carries 2 points and is $110.
You told me I was wrong and that the ticket had 4 demerit points. The only offense in Ontario that comes with 4 demerit points is speeding 30km/h over limit... nothing else. Ask your buddy what the ticket said, that's about as simple as it gets... you know the part where it says "contrary to HTA blah blah, failure to etc.."

LOL @ someone on my ignore list correcting my error. (Only seen that post because VorteC quoted it.) And yes by error I mean singular. Funny guy trying to say offence is spelled offense  Good ol' Jon Lai, ignored since as long as I can remember
Even look on the MTO's website for how it's spelled by the ON government:
http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/driver/demerit.shtml
Drivers convicted of certain driving-related offences have demerit points recorded on their records. It is a common misconception that drivers "lose" points due to convictions for certain traffic offences. In fact, a driver begins with zero demerit points and accumulates demerit points for convictions.
Emphasis added.
But yeah so I made a mistake (occurrence) but c'mon the OPs post that I quoted/corrected was riddled with foolishness in addition to the hard to read "sentences". Not nearly the same thing.

Not sure if you have stuffed potatoes in your ears but I just stated earlier why its almost impossible to merge into the far left lane, that lane is always backed up before the ramp so good luck merging into that lane, your gonna have to use a shoehorn to squeeze your car into the line of cars in the far left lane turning onto yonge street north, These are all cars coming from the queens Qway lane i think? but yeah you just try and put your turn signal on, no body lets you in, secondly when your trying to turn and no body lets you in, its more dangerous to wait arround for a spot to open up, your pressured by the row of cars behind you honking at you and the street beggers as well are giving you dirty looks cus you didn't tip them. so your forced to "MOVE YOUR CAR QUICKLY" AND the only way you can go is straight and try to turn from the middle lane. which used to be legal 6 months go, but now its illegal they changed it, but if your so used to turning from that lane, you would not think twice, and still do it out of "old habit" regardless of what the signs say. you can not always pay attention to the signs because your distracted by the squeegie kids who smash and spit on your wind shields, or the begget at the end of the EON building who holds out his cup of tim hortons coffee and asks if you have any spare change and one day I did, and tossed it in his cup, little did I know he had a cup full of coffee, boy was he not impressed with me, I thought he was gonna call the squeegie kid and the guy liing in the card board box under the other side of the gardiner to coem over and smash in my windshield, but the light quickly turned green and i had to get out of there quickly, so I did an illegal left turn from the middle lane.

BULL. I had a smoke outside on the terrace that overlooks the intersection yesterday - not a single car turned from the middle lane in the ten minutes I was out there.

blah blah blah
Great, another driver on the street who, first, doesn't pay attention to big, huge road signs and then second, ignores road signs and make illegal turns because they're impatient.
I take the exit a couple of times a week at all hours of the day and never had an issue with changing lanes to get to the far left. But if you're such a bad driver, then I suggest you turn south instead on the off ramp to Bay, left onto Queens Quay and back north onto Yonge. It'll take you an extra 20 seconds each time, but save you years off your life from the road rage.
